    Beautiful, peaceful place.
I happened upon this park while wandering around Sitka. I did a small trail loop and saw beautiful trees, a flowing river, and several totem/story poles. It was a lovely walk. I felt safe alone.

Treasure slightly off the beaten path
Thank goodness for the US National Parks Service. This sacred spot in Sitka houses priceless artifacts and does an immensely credible job at decolonizing the indigenous experience in this area of the world. Welcoming Park ranger inside the main entrance and completely knowledgeable. A joy to experience while in Sitka!

    Beautiful forest, lovely trails
Wonderful way to spend time in port. Easy and pretty walk along the water from downtown. I highly recommend doing this along with the Raptor center just up the road. No reason to do a guided tour, but rideshare is impossible on ship days- so plan accordingly. We were able to walk to everything, but give yourself time

    SNHP/TP something for everyone
Interesting place with a lot of different things to offer. Museum and movie, totem pole park, plus beach and lot of trails. Can get busy with the cruise ships but people eventually spread out on the trails. A nice stroll would be to take the trail form here to the Raptor Center. It would also be cool to see the salmon running up the Indian river here, not sure when that is.

Breathtaking views, nice walk around forest/park
Beautiful walking path in this park/forest with tons of totem poles, beautiful water views of mountains in the backdrop. Definitely worth the 10 minute walk where cruiseship shuttles drop you off Free to enter. Saw 2 separate bald eagles soaring by perching in the trees

    What a gem!
What a great activity to do while you're in town. With free admission, it is fun for the whole family and will occupy a significant amount of time. From the video that they play on demand when it isn't crowded or on a schedule when crowded, to the carving hut behind with a native Alaskan carving master, Tommy, to the totem trail rich in history and free guided tour thru the NPS app, and the exhibits inside, this place is worth the visit. The walk through the woods is very mild and easy for all ages, with practically zero elevation.

    Inspiring
This was a pleasant discovery! We walked the short trail from the central area and after being in awe of spotting bald eagles we made our way to the visitor center. Armed with a map we tool a leisurely walk on one of the trails through the forest, admiring the totems and the glorious natural beauty! Highly recommended!

Beautiful walk in the woods surrounded by heritage.
Beautiful walk in the woods! Even though it was pouring rain we really enjoyed our walk through the totem poles. Much of the walk is along the water. It’s very flat and walkable. We downloaded the NPS app for a free self guided tour. It was very informative.

    Must see
Take the 30 minute guided tour of the totem pole from the rangers. See the site of 1804 Battle of Sitka. Watch salmon, bald eagles and belted kingfisher in or over Indian River. Good museum about Tlingit culture.

    Inspiring nature and history
This was an excursion from an Alaskan Cruise. Our group enjoyed a leisurely hike a through the area with many sitings of eagles and their habitats. Our guide, Sammie, was great; she provided information and history in an enjoyable but thorough manner. The totem poles, often isolated, with her insights into their meanings, were a must see. This site could not be fully enjoyed one's own.

Visiting Sitka was wonderful. you could walk to everything. We had a relaxing day walking to the NHP and within the City. Nice to get off the cruise ship and walk around.

Sitka National Historical Park is also a museum with random historic totem poles of the Tlingit people along the forest path. We were on a private tour but you can easily do this in your own.

The park is a short walk from the Raptor Rehab Center. Start on the park path off Sawmill Creek Road and walk thru a peaceful environment filled with thriving trees, the babbling brook that leads out to crescent bay and the museum.

Take in the majestic beauty of the greenery, moss, waters and tall trees! See many historic totem poles and end your journey at the museum.
Totem poles tell the histories of Tlingit families that are centuries old. The museum is steeped in explaining the rich history of the Tlingit people’s livelihoods in the Sitka area and beyond!

After departing our cruise ships, this wonderful park was our first stop. The visitor center had informative displays and the rainforest was a peaceful retreat from the hoards of cruise passengers visiting the port that day. The path was flat and well maintained and provided an easy trail to see the numerous totem poles. Folks with mobility issues can easily navigate this park. Make sure to visit Indian River for salmon spawning, if visiting at the right time. This park is highly recommended AND it's free!

A very lovely park, with well laid out walking tracks, through the heavily wooded park. At one point you come across a bridge over a stream that is full on salmon. Throughout the park there are Totem poles along the tracks. The walk only takes about 30 minutes, and it is well worth the time. Just lovely walking through the forest.

This trail is a must do for day visitors to Sitka. It’s an easy walk and has such incredible views looking back at the town and sound. The totem poles are all different, it was fun to identify the different animals.

We visited this beautiful park as part of an excursion from our cruise ship and didn't have enough time to explore properly. We did, however, spot some eagles and the river was teeming with salmon. The walks looked lovely - maybe if we ever return!!

After visiting the Raptor Center we made a left at the street and walked back to the cross walk. Crossed the street and we were on the the gentle path to the totems. This is a lush green forested trail. Very easy, we saw some gals with a stroller on the dirt path. Signage is pretty good to point you in the right direction. Once you reach the visitor center it is about a twenty minute walk along the bay front to the city center. Numerous totems can found on trail that end up hugging the bay.

This place is amazing. On my walk to the park I saw numerous otters in the bay and eagles overhead. The park itself was so beautiful and tanquil. The park is so vast that I could not go through it all because of the allotted time. It was amazing to see eagle flying right above you and perched in the trees. The here were informational plaques throughout the park. A must do while in Sitka.

On this our second visit to Sitka we decided to head out of town to check out the totem poles in the National Historic Park. It really is not that far a walk and it really is worth the visit! The totems are excellent especially as there is signage explaining the significance of each, but regardless of the historical significance the trails are simply beautiful! Go ahead and enjoy some Nature : )
