We just got back from an Alaska cruise and this place has by far the best views in the city! It is only a 1/2 mile walk from the cruise dock! You can either walk up the stairs or you can use a ramp but the views are fantastic

This is a small park but has great views and interesting interpretive stations. There are two entrances, one is all stairs and the other is a ramp.

Lots of interesting information on plaques located around the top of the hill. This is where the US flag was raised after Alaska was sold to the US by Russia. Great views from the top. Go around the back side and take the steps up--much faster than the switchback ramps!

For Alaska history enthusiasts, Castle Hill in the charming town of Sitka needs no introduction. This strategic location overlooks Sitka Sound, and while the surrounding area has been much modified, one can still gaze out over the walls and imagine the Tlingit war canoes, Russian vessels, and sailing traders moving about the water in front of you. The hill top... More

A small little site, in the heart of town. There is a great view of the town, harbor and surrounding area from the top of a small hill. A few historical markers, and that is it.

Maybe the history that happened at this site is so special to me because I'm an Alaskan, but it is a great spot to see for anyone who loves history or beautiful views. There is an old, steeper flight of stairs (not very long though) and it looked like there was also a ramp going up the other side for... More

Baranof Castle (or Castle Hill) is the place where Russia relinquished control over Alaska to the US in the late 1800s. We were looking for it and almost missed it, as the entrance is small- located between two buildings. The entrance provides the history on explanation boards. Then, the long flight of steps up the hill. It may seem daunting,... More

If you go up a long flight of stairs, you get to the site of the old fort. Nice view from up there, and some historical information.

This is all about the view. Climbed some stairs to spectacular view, even in drizzly weather. There are some informative signs along the way so you get to learn about this important historical site, but the view is what it's all about.
