This group has set up the bear refuge in not a very nice place, but what they are doing for the bears is great. Go and visit and leafn about bears and contribute to this place for future improvements

This place is absolutely amazing and such a wonderful experience. You are able to see the brown and black bears from a viewing platform. The work carried out by this Center is incredibly valuable and immensely important. An absolute must see!!!!!

Awesome place to get up close with both black and brown bears. Claire was super informative and provided a great tour. Their focus on education and creating fun experiences for all makes this a must do in Sitka for any bear enthusiast.

Not much different than seeing bears at a zoo. So much to do in Sitka, I would probably choose something else.

We visited the Fortress of the Bear with a friend. This is a great sanctuary; the story of how it finally came to be is interesting. The structures are being repaired and others are being constructed to house bears. We saw their winter dens and...More

This is the only place in Alaska where orphaned cubs have a chance. They raise them in such a way that they can go to natural habitat zoos (no pace in a box with iron bars). There is a stream running through where they teach...More
