We camped here for spring break with our young kids. Pros: mountains and views spectacular, near Ski Santa Fe so can easily access the ski slopes quickly. Camp host and park rangers very nice and helpful. Cons: only electric camp sites, has pit toilet. No showers/bathrooms. 1 water main available up at the camp office only.

We camped for two nights and loved every minute of it. Site 19 where we had amazing trees, a stream trickling in the distance, a trail passing right by our site, a waterfall, no cell service and fantastic weather. No hookups, vault toilet. Close to town but far enough away.

Wonderful park with a spectacular trail. Go past mile marker 13 almost to mile marker 14, park in the huge parking lot and take the trail as much (12 miles) or as little as you want. Level and friendly for a while, and then steep up hill after about 2 miles. The day we did it the Aspen trees were all in bloom. What a beautiful sight.

We’re traveling tomorrow to Santa Fe as we do every year but looks like there’s a lot less snow. Can anyone give me a heads up?
Thank you

I am an avid camper and RV’er now. I have NEVER felt threatened or scared to camp someplace until I tried to stay here and met Joe. He is terrifying. He sneaks up on you. He is not friendly. He constantly threatens to “Call the ranger.” For example, I had to go back to town to go to an ATM to pay my park fee. When I returned it wasn’t late and I wanted to avoid shining my headlights in everyone’s campers so I went the technically wrong way on a wide road for thirty feet to pay my fee and go to me campsite another twenty feet away. This direction was uphill so my lights didn’t hit anyone’s windows. Suddenly Joe appears md just starts chewing me out. Doesn’t let me go pay. I asked him what it was he wanted me to do: reverse? Park quickly? Drive with NO lights on at all? Joe had no answer and continued to obstruct any progress. It was incredibly hostile and weird. Mind you this was at 1020 ok at night. It was dark. And I was alone. When I asked for his name he became upset and threatened to call the ranger then started radio-ing without any clear explanation. It was awful. He was awful. Does he just sit around all night looking for a reason to be upset and feel powerful? His excuse was that I spent to long in my car filling out the envelope to pay my fee. Seriously? It was the most awkward encounter of my lifetime camping as an Eagle Scout and beyond. If Joe is still there, avoid this place. I had to leave and went to sleep in trailer in a large parking lot in town. It felt way safer than being here.

This is a great place to sled. We went here a few days after a snowstorm and there were tons of snow to sled. They designated 3 sledding area with nets. Bring your own sled, but they do sell sleds, however, when we got there it was all sold out. Luckily we brought our own. Parking is limted but people come and go so you can find parking. The road conditions going there is paved and plowed. It is not very far from the Plaza. The park closes at 4pm during that time. So plan well and you will have a marvelous time sledding.

We are supposed to go to Ski Santa Fe and just dropped by to take pictures of the place, ended up here since kids wanted to try sledding and enjoyed it so much that we decided to just stay here. Another good thing is that you only pay for $5.00 parking fee.

This park is convenient in that it is close to Santa Fe and to hiking trails, which is the reason we chose it. Our tent site was spacious with a good tent pad. We had a difficult time finding our site, there was no map posted on the bulletin boards and the office was closed as was the visitor center. (We arrived around 5:00 p.m.) They could use more signs!

Spent a week in Santa Fe and went four times here! First day, did the scenic drive up to the Ski Lodge. Day two, biked the 14 1/2 miles to the Ski Lodge. Third day, hiked the trail starting at mile marker 13 to Tesugue Peak, and fourth day, biked again up to the Ski Lodge. Along the way, we were amazed at the incredible views, the challenging incline, and the quietness of the place. So pleased to drive through Hyde Park to the ski lodge. What an incredible place for campers, hikers, and cyclist. On side note, lots of bathroom facilities available and picnic areas! Recommend this park and will come back again!

This is actually a state park (http://www.emnrd.state.nm.us/PRD/Hyde.htm) and only about 30 minutes from the Plaza in Santa Fe. The park is located on the road up to the Santa Fe Ski Basin and has good camping and picnic facilities though it is crowded on weekends and during the summer. There are also some good trails in this area.

Just past the park you come to a large Aspen forest that turns yellow and orange in the fall, usually end of Sept, start of Oct. The road becomes very busy when the colors are at their prime but this makes for some great photos.

There are no established eateries along this road but you will find some great places for a picnic so bring along some salsa and chips!
