About
Over 80 art galleries line this charming Santa Fe street. Make sure you set aside a few hours of your stay to walk down Canyon Road and see the world-class art on display here, which ranges in style from historic Native American art to contemporary painting. In addition to art galleries, you'll also find boutiques and restaurants along Canyon Road.

- lauraruSeattle, Washington23 contributionsAn extraordinary way to spend a day!My husband and i spent Christmas in Santa Fe with our adult daughter. We all loved walking up Canyon Road. I agree with other reviewers that this would not be a good trip for littles and to be aware that this is not a window shopping trip - you'll need to go into the galleries to see the art. That said, I was amazed how friendly the gallery workers were, even when it was clear we weren't dropping tens of thousands of dollars on art. I wish there were one or two more cafes in the middle of the road, rather than kind of clumped at the end, but don't miss the Teahouse, even if you don't drink tea.Visited December 2022Written 1 January 2023
- Lori ESaratoga, California5 contributionsGreat places for art of all types!Sculptures, painting, prints, jewelry, and even a delightful “tea house. What a great way to spend a morning, an afternoon, or even a whole day (not for the faint hearted shopper.). Unusual items, one of a kind custom items. The perfet venue to find a large or small upgrade to your favorite places.Visited October 2022Travelled with friendsWritten 9 January 2023
- TravelgalloreSummerfield, North Carolina44 contributionsCultural experienceWe walked up and down Canyon Street. Give yourself plenty of time. But still worth the visit even if you cannot hit all the galleries. The pieces of jewelry and art were amazing. It is a pricey place, but I am sure worth it if you find a piece you love. One gallery has a little wine bar and patio in the back - worth visiting and relaxing!Visited January 2023Written 17 January 2023
- TigrbugAppleton, Wisconsin42 contributionsHighlight of the art galleries in Santa FeWe visited only a few due to bad weather. Gallery owners were thrilled that we'd come out "in this weather!". Everyone very friendly, answered a lot of questions, showed no expectation that we would buy something. We were provided flyers of certain artists that I asked about and was allowed to take photographs. I'd love to be there when walking would have been easier & we could have visited more of the galleries.Visited January 2023Written 28 January 2023
- PAboyinFLOcala, Florida1,248 contributionsNot into art, but found it interesting anywayCanyon Road is lined with gallery after gallery of the artworks of local Santa Fe artists. It’s easy to spend a few hours walking and viewing all the outdoor displays. Finding parking on the narrow, busy road will be the difficult part Use a side street as your parking solution.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 March 2023
- kurt b5 contributionsNo Your Price Before BuyingFound some pottery we liked and the guy told us he would give us a great deal at over 50% off and it would come to $120. Found the same exact pottery in Taos for $65. Have to know what your price points are any where in Santa Fe.Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 3 April 2023
- Tom HSanta Cruz, California383 contributionsAn Incredible Amount of ArtMake time to take a walk up Canyon Road. The sheer number of interesting looking art studios is amazing. They say there are more than 100 along this short stretch of road. Canyon Road itself is a pleasant walk with big trees and a bit cooler than town. We were there after 5:00 pm so only a few studios were open but there were enough art objects on display outside of closed shops - and in peaking into the windows - to make the trip worthwhile. We did walk through one of the bigger studios and marveled at the art (and the prices) and chatted with the staff. In this welcoming setting, I didn't feel burdened to buy something and enjoyed myself.Visited June 2023Written 19 June 2023
- Debra C2 contributionsArt in historical pueblo galleriesThe #3 art district in the U.S. behind New York City & LA. Plus, Santa Fe is America's oldest state capitol. So the galleries are housed in historical pueblo buildings along a narrow street that also includes outdoor art. Such a cool, authentic setting for all that incredible art! Definitely not a Rodeo Drive shopping spree experience! You'll see amazing works that may have taken an artist a year or more to complete. Sometimes quite passionate, the gallery people are engaging even when they know most of us can't afford to make purchases. Walk thru galleries, then have lunch at the Tea House or margaritas at El Farol, then walk thru more galleries. Besides Canyon Rd. the side streets also have galleries. So pace yourself, you'll need all day to get through every shop.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 July 2023

As we strolled from gallery to gallery, we became more and more engaged in the world of art, prices, and Adobe architecture. The gallery owners or gallery sitters were more than happy to chat about the pieces and the artist.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 July 2023

It was interesting but everything is high end. There is literally no parking except for one paid parking area at the top for $5 an hour. The info on line says Canyon Road is only a half mile, but it is closer to a mile long, and if you walk up and down both sides of the street, it is then 2 miles. The tea House restaurant at the end of Canyon Road was very good. The tables were outside and had umbrellas for shade, and trees. It is a pretty spot for lunch. The shops that line Canyon Road vary from meh to really terrific. I liked the shops where the owners made at least some of their merchandise. One store in particular, Clearlight Jewelry, Rose makes all her own jewelry. It is beautiful and she is quite knowledgable. She has earrings and necklaces that look like sunrises and moonrises. I found a pair of Abalone earrings that were just beautiful. There is another store called Terra Mar that had really interesting furniture pieces. Canyon Road is a nice walk, great for meandering

I knew ahead that prices were high .. putting it nicely. I still enjoy seeing peoples art work. We did not go to them all. Knee was not up for the long walk each way. We parked and caught a number of shops. Moved up to were there were others that caught my eye and saw those all those shops as well. Such creativity and craftsmanship put into so much here. I enjoyed walking along and admiring their works of Art !!

This is a must see - an eclectic mix of artistic mediums are all along this walkable route. A highlight of this area is the sculpture gardens - many with vibrant colorful flowers and water features.

This was recommended as a “must place” to visit whilst in Santa Fe.
I’m sorry I don’t understand why?
Yes it is pleasant to wander along, outside of the busy centre but unless you are super rich with thousands of dollars to spend there is nothing to buy. I know some people enjoy the thrill of admiring what is out of reach but personally I don’t.
I felt like I was being looked down upon by the owners because, from appearances, I evidently wasn’t of the right social class.
It reminded me of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman on Rodeo Drive

I don't remember public restrooms, but I think the individual stores had restrooms. it wasn't a problem.
Can we walk from the Canyon Road art district to the Plaza?

Why, yes you can if you are able and would like to take in all the trees and sights along the way... If you are lucky and find a parking spot along the road, you will probably have to do some walking anyway!!! Lots of opportunities along the area!!!

I don't think all of the museums and attractions would be closed on Monday. I would check, as suggested, on the chamber website.
When we walk the road, we often just enjoy the outdoor sculptures and flower gardens. There are also stores and restaurants.

Hello!
I was wondering if you could tell me about parking near the Canyon Rd. galleries? I have read that their is parking at either end. We have a small motorhome and hoping to be able to park in somewhere nearby.
Thanks for any advice you might provide.

Parking is limited. I would advise you get there really early for the best spot. We were within walking distance of our suite so we did not have to address the parking issue. The city also has a shuttle service & UBER is operating as well. Have fun!!

Is Canyon Road easily experienced on my own, or do I need a tour guide?
Elaine R
Santa Fe, NM
Hi Pam! Great question. While a guide is not necessary to visit Canyon Road, a tour can offer insight and a nuanced (and fun!) experience of the area and of the artwork on view.
Some folks find it helpful to take a tour first and then continue exploring on their own.
I own Santa Fe Art Tours in addition to helping out with answers here, and we created a “Discover Canyon Road” to give folks an awesome Canyon Road experience. You can actually book it right here on TripAdvisor. I hope that helps!

Is there free parking anywhere?
Elaine R
Santa Fe, NM
Street parking along Canyon Road is free, but it can be tricky during busy times. Parking along Alameda Street, which runs parallel to Canyon Road, is also free. There is a small, free parking lot at the beginning of Canyon Road, as well.

Is there a close car rental company? I'm thinking we'd take the shuttle to the hotel for the first few days then rent a car for the second half of our trip. Thank you.

We always rent at the airport, but check Santa Fe car rental. It is the state capitol so I wouldn't be surprised if you'd find a rental company. Or, you might even ask at your hotel. Might there be a zip car? Again, ask your hotel. ENJOY
