We originally had Spencer as our captain. But our trip got canceled due to fowl weather. Mayas legacy was great. They gave us their numbers to let us know inside info on the whales and managed to work us in another day. Although the Southern Residents weren't there. (FYI people, these are wild animals and there native environment is San... More

the boat was the best we've had for a whale watch. it was a small, low catamaran that was extremely sturdy, though the water was smooth the whole time even with a small storm a few miles away. the captains jeff and jim were excellent, knowledgeable, and just as excited as we were to look for wildlife. the fact that... One of the things that was a must on our trip to the San Juan Islands was whale watching. We have seen Humpbacks quite a few times but never Orcas. After doing a little research on our own we were very happy to end up choosing Maya's! Only 11 people on a beautiful new boat with both a captain and... More

We had an amazing time with the crew at Maya's Legacy Whale Watching. Everyone was SO friendly and knowledgeable. Just 10 min into our boat ride we saw orcas. A large male at a distance and then a few others. We continued on and the ENTIRE trip we saw them. 2 calfs breached, others spy hoped, slapped their flukes and... More

We were on San Juan island, WA in early September 2016. We went out on a tour with Maya's Legacy. The boat was very comfortable and smooth, and I am firmly NOT a boat person (although I did take Bonine, which I highly recommend if you are prone to motion sickness). The crew are very knowledgeable about whales and know... More

I managed to squeeze onto an afternoon trip on their smaller boat (The Glacier or something?) from Snug Harbour a couple of weeks ago, and wow was I glad I did! I received a warm welcome, and was made to feel safe throughout, despite the prospect of choppy seas. We managed to get through the waves and persevered to find... More

We went out with Sarah and captain Andy. They were friendly, very knowledgable, and great fun. Andy went to great lengths to give us the best view and longest time with the whales. It was an unforgettable experience. It's a small boat so no fighting for a good view, which we could see was happening on other whale watching boats.... More

This was by far the most memorable part of our vacation!! We went out on a dark, windy Saturday at 11:30am and the water was too rough to go all the way out. It was agreed by all that we would try again at 2:30pm when the water was supposedly calmer. Well our Captain tried his best but did not... More

The day started with some trepidation as, with the approaching storm front, we weren't sure if the trip with Maya's Legacy would even happen. It ended up being a perfect day. Coming out of Snug Harbor our boat, ably skippered by Capt. Jim Maya, was the first to make contact with not one but two resident orca pods. We spent... More
