An Intimate Small Boat Experience With A Six Passenger Max Limit for a very personal experience.

Whale Watching is our passion! Your goal is to see whales and our goal is to show them to you.

Captain Ken has been a professional mariner for 37 years serving as captain mainly on ocean tugs on the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. He has worked small cruise ships in SE Alaska and Inside Passage and Excursion vessels on the Columbia and Snake Rivers from Astoria, OR to Lewiston, ID.

Ken has had opportunity to see whale behavior as well as many other marine life on the Pacific Ocean from Kodiak Alaska all the way down to the Sea of Cortez in Mexico and on the Atlantic Ocean. He has seen Humpback Whales “bubble net feeding” in Alaska and scratched the heads of curious Gray Whale calves in Mexico

One of Ken’s greatest passions is to share his experience with others and now he is able to do just that by taking you out to meet the whales in their natural environment. He is a certified Naturalist and loves to share what he has learned, with you on the tour.

I don't even know how to thank enough Captain Ken! This was the highlight of our trip! We saw LOTs of orcas, sea lions, seals and a lot of birds. Boat is fast and comfortable, Captain Ken is very helpful and knowledgeable. Also, Ken is professional photographer, he'll send you pictures from the trip. Highly recommended!

Ken was a fabulous captain for my daughter and I. We saw the transient orcas, seals, sea lions, a bald eagle, and mouflon sheep! I highly recommend this whale watching excursion!

My friend and I got to Friday Harbor in the morning and booked this trip in the afternoon at the very last minute. We had a great time! Captain Ken was punctual, friendly, knowledgable, and patient with the whales. His boat was very nice and well-kept. We found two humpback whales, Heather and Raven, and Ken followed them at a... Ken was an excellent guide. We were able to see a number of different sights, including three pods of ocras, a pod of seals and a colony of sea lions. Excellent trip. Would recommend to friends.

My wife and I went whale watching early in the season - April 17th. We picked this tour based on the reviews and were not disappointed. We showed up a little early for the tour but since we were the only ones booked on Ken's 26ft boat, we left early. Even though we were the only ones booked, Ken had... More

Our trip to discover the Orcas and whales and other animals and birds of the Salish Sea was life changing and affirming and Captain Ken Rae is one of the most honest and caring men I have ever met. He will do all within his power to see that you have a wonderful experience.

The very best thing about this trip is Ken and the small boat - with a max of 6 people, there won't be any jockeying for views, seats, etc. Ken went above and beyond and was like having a friend (more knowledgeable!) with us. Highly recommend Spirit of Orca. Thanks, Ken!

Today we went whale watching with Captain Ken on the Spirit of Orca. We realized that March is a bit early to spot whales but with relatives from Texas, we wanted to give it a try. Captain Ken gave a us a tour of the islands and waters near Friday Harbor. We saw eagles,, seals, sea lions, deer and wild... More

Our guide Nico ( A marine biologist )and our captain were enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about their subject .There are three rules for whale watching we were told. Respect, patience, and luck. We had all three. Being able to witness adult whales jump and twist out of the water( called breeching) is something that I feel blessed to have witnessed.... More

We booked this cruise just a couple days in advance. Most of the other tour boats were full. This cruise was only a few dollars more than the large boats but thought we would try a small boat out. It was awesome! We have been an a couple wildlife boating excursions and NEVER were able to experience the animals up-close... More
