We came here for the tour of Freestyle Love Supreme. This house holds less than 1000 seats, so it’s a great space for a smaller stage show. We were right on the front row and loved seeing everything up close. Restrooms are downstairs and the stairs are tall and steep, so be careful!

Not only have we seen many shows at the theater, we have performed on stage many times. We just love the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre and are so glad it was saved and restored. It is a San Antonio Jewel.

Wife, kids (8,5) enjoyed play at this magical theater. Every seat is close to stage. Old but in awesome conditions.

I was pleased to run into this landmark historic theater of the town and was glad it was revived to use as musical performance along with a few others in the area. The Charline McCombs Empire Theatre is located in the heart of San Antonio "Theater District" area. According to the history, it was once a well known movie theater and at present, it has been revived to serve the community as a musical theater. I did not see any shows here so the rating is mainly location and outside physical of the theater. San Antonio is lucky to have a few landmark theaters that are still in operation.

First and foremost, The Empire Theater is a BEAUTIFUL classic theater that has been restored to accommodate some amazing shows. If you're listening to music, the acoustics are WONDERFUL! Every seat in the house holds a great view and the lighting is magical! We visited the theater for a concert. HOWEVER, I am deducting points due to the overly aggressive staff who seem to want the audience at a music concert to sit silently in a coma-like state. Our event was NOT a classical music concert OR a symphony. The artist was upbeat and seemed to like playing off audience applause and verbal feedback. However, the theater STAFF circled the crowd like a S.W.A.T Team, warning anyone who became too loud or stood up to quickly QUIET DOWN and SIT DOWN! Honey, this is not a Sunday morning church, and if we wanted to sit in silence as if having open heart surgery, WE COULD HAVE STAYED HOME and listened to a cd or gone to the emergency room. Who wants to sit at a concert, where the artist is working overtime to get audience applause, only to be told to be quiet? MOREOVER, we had seats near the stage on the left side, but certain sections were completely roped off, as if we were going to stage dive. This was a country music concert, but the security was tighter than a post-9/11 airport! Seriously? What gives? I came to have fun and respond to the AMAZING BAND, but all hope of that was squashed by busy body USHERS with too much time on their hands. Although the beauty of the theater is one of a kind, next time I will drive to see the artist in another city like Austin, Houston or Dallas......some place where people understand an appreciative audience. Unfortunately, The Empire Theater just lost a great patron who spends A LOT of money. The last time I saw this artist, it was at the House of Blues in Houston--a place where music lovers are actually encouraged to ENJOY the concert! So, I'll spend my money there next time. Oh, Empire Theater, you had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. Sorry, but no second date for you.

The Charlene McCombs Empire Theatre is such a jewel tucked quietly away in San Antonio. We love to attend shows at the theatre because it is so very easy to access and move around in. We owe a dept of gratitude to Charlene for saving this wonderful place.

I went to the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre to see Tracy Morgan the comedian. The theatre is small but beautifully done. Every seat in the theatre has a great view. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. I would definately go back to this theatre for another venue.

This is the backside of the Majestic Theater and was only for blacks back in the day. Awesome renovation of the original artwork and wall treatments. It is going to get a new name soon so look for that.

Smaller than the Majestic but regal none-the-less. Great intimate venue for comedians and small bands/solos since you feel up close and personal.
