We visited the Alamo and then the History Shop. Great little shop. Small dig site and Lights and Sound Alamo display were very well done. My teenagers enjoyed it too. Very nice man running the place. He was very knowledgable about all thing Alamo.

This little hole in the wall shop is fascinating and fun and will make your visit to the Alamo much more enjoyable. This store sells antique maps and guns, but stop in to see the 12ish x 12ish foot replica of the Alamo and pay for the 12 minute audio tour that gives you the history of the site and... More

There is a large display of the ALAMO and Michael Collins does a voice over explaining the battle and key movements. It really helped us visualize! Recommend doing this before visiting the Alamo! It was about $5 a person! Cool little shop!

When visiting the Alamo, you should also visit The History Shop. It's a small shop adjacent to the Alamo that has a very large diorama if the original Alamo and a tour narrated by Phil Collins. He is one of the most profound Alamo historians and artifact collector of Alamo memorabilia in the world. Aside from this narration at the... More

You really do have to visit this little shop. It has a fantastic model of the Alamo and also a covered archaeological dig showing the Alamo remains. Pay a visit before going to the Alamo, it has great detail and will help you understand exactly what happened and when.

The shop is small, but the main focus is the model of the Alamo before the battle started. For $5, you can hear the singer Phil Collins of Genesis narrate you the story behind the Alamo. Apparently, he is a huge fan of the Alamo and invested millions of dollars into obtaining Alamo memorabilia and bought the rights to the... More

This is a very unassuming stop but one with a big impact. The $5 cost to watch and listen to the presentation is well worth it. The guide is very knowledgeable and super willing to share . A must see before or after visiting the Alamo.

Across the street from the ALAMO, in a very unassuming storefront on Houston Street, is a tiny, tiny shop called The History Shop. The proprietor (Al) sells (and frames, original historical documents (such as maps, photos, etc.) But Al is quite the character himself; if you can get him alone, he will regale you with all sorts of stories about... Employees are very friendly and knowledgeable. It is $5 per adult to watch the light show that tells a good history of the area and gives a good idea of the area layout. Go before you visit the Alamo.

I was so grateful I'd read reviews to visit here before going to the Alamo. The reviews were right. The information at the Alamo is highly text-based and detail-oriented--it's hard to grasp the big picture of what happened there. The brief presentation at the History Shop gives a great overview and helps the information presented at the Alamo to make... More
