Drove onto Lackland to see the changes since I went thru AF Basic Training in 1972. Wow, what a difference in dormitories and dining halls. First - class!

Great prices on food, savings of 30% or more at the commissary. The base exchange has a host of items to satisfy any shopper, good prices and no tax!

We were able to get on the base due to cousin's credentials to experience the flight simulator for a C-5 cargo plane. This was late in the day so there wasn't much activity where we were so I don't know how active the area is...More

The Base is located in a not so good area. Although there for graduation, the Base itself was boring. Graduates couldn't leave the Base the first day so there was nothing to do. Nicer hotels are a little further away. I stayed about 6 miles...More

We visited last week (3/2-3-5) for my Son's graduation. I was very impressed how accommodating everyone was, how clean the base was and of course I was excited to see my Airman after 7 weeks. LOTS of amenities, shops, places to eat, etc.

Thank Kris M

At the base everyone was so nice, friendly and helpful. The graduation is something I will never forget. Thank you for letting the families be part of it. May God Bless every Airman that walks through those gates.

Are you going with anyone who is active/retired military? If not, I believe the only way to tour the base is with a school or organization that has made a formal request. To my knowledge, the general public isn't allowed... More

I believe you have to have someone stationed on base to enter as a civilian. They have to meet you at the gate. I was told that is the only way on under more recent rules or laws.
