- Terry KBurlington, Vermont144 contributionsQuaint, beautiful historic.Beautiful old bar, wonderful nice staff. Much smaller than I thought. Very rich with history. Unfortunately, they no longer sell or allow cigar smoking inside the bar. It would have been great to have a cigar in the same place is Teddy Roosevelt smoked a cigars. Alas, you can buy weed on any street corner, but a gentleman cannot have a fine cigar.Visited December 2022Travelled soloWritten 12 December 2022
- Joe307 contributionsGreat little historic barGreat bar to drop off for a drink or some snacks. The bar is really nice and a replica of the bar in the a House of Lords in London, UK. Well worth stopping by and if not staying in the hotel I’d recommend having a walk through the Menger lobby as the place is filled with history and is quite unique.Visited December 2022Travelled with friendsWritten 2 January 2023

Lonesome Dove also had scenes filmed here. We took our 3 teens in to check it out. The staff were very friendly and pointed out the bullet hole. It is an historic bar.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 July 2023

How historic is the Menger? And the famous Teddy Roosevelt bar. He actually drank in here you know. Hard to believe. Well poured drinks in amazing and historic surroundings. We drank ours outside on the patio on a beautiful autumn evening. Interesting place. Go!

This place is the package deal! Great fresh light food cold beer and fun staff!
The specialty drinks are hand made and served like you’re hanging out with your best friends house.

Really cool historic places with great drinks. Not super lively but more of an intimate cozy spot. Bartenders all super nice too.

While the Menger bar is a stunning historic bar, I am surprised it has been rated as one of the top 10 historic bars in the U.S. which is dissing numerous similar bars that are more deserving. The claim that it is a replica of the House of Lords pub in London, is a fact but this is not a pub. There are no beers on draught and if you have ever visited the UK or are British, bottled beer only, without any British offerings is an abomination. Seeing no quality bottled beers (beers on tap was a bar raised too high) I ordered a Moscow mule. A proper mule is shaken in a cocktail shaker, what I was served was a watered down half shot with a splash of ginger beer. Patrons deserve better. At least start with Texas beers on tap with a UK offering or two, and get your cocktails on with some proper experience.

The Menger Bar is a definite stop when you're visiting the hotel and it's such a comfy place to stay and have a drink. The bar is relatively small, but it has 2 floors, which gives it a bit more room than expected. We enjoyed our drinks and you have to love all of the Teddy Roosevelt/Rough Riders memorabilia given that he recruited people to joint the Rough Riders in this bar (how can you not love that). Definitely check this out when you're in the area!
