You stroll leisurely along the River Walk to reach this museum where you encounter an outstanding collection of art from many periods and countries. Be prepared to read and learn. Each work is identified by name and year but also discussed in terms of material, technique, style, format. You also get good bios of the artists. In fact, the museum... More

The museum has a very interesting and varied collection. There was an optional exhibition of Chinese Art for an additional cost, but we had more than enough to see with the several rooms of fascinating works of art in the regular gallery.

In the three decades I've lived in San Antonio, I've seen this museum grow from a relatively small regional museum to a major one with a wide variety of art. A standout is the pre-Columbian collection that was donated by the Rockefeller family about 20 years ago, and for which the museum built a separate wing. There's also an extensive... More

This museum is large and has wonderful permanent collections which are divided into various sections. The antiquities section is particularly interesting with lots of Roman and Greek examples. There are also temporary exhibits which have an extra charge in addition to the regular admission price. I have found them always to be worth the additional monies. Museum memberships are available... More

We really enjoyed the Greek and Egyptian exhibit. It had several other exhibits but part was under construction when we visited. It was an interesting afternoon and a great option on a rainy day as well.

... and so are two hours on Sundays. (Special exhibitions aren't free.) I got there an hour and a half after the free opening time, but the museum didn't feel too crowded once I left the lobby. The building is fun architecturally. You can hardly miss the glass-walled elevator. But don't miss the top-floor skybridge or the outside rooftop gallery... More

Really enjoyed the way art was displayed at this museum. There was a nice flow going from exhibit to exhibit.

We rode the #7 bus to the Botanical Garden, and on the way there, passed this Museum. From inside the bus, it somehow disappointed us. It looked like an industrial building, and the area around it looked quite shabby. On the way back from the Gardens, we got off the bus across the street, and saw that this structure made... More
