San Antonio River Walk
San Antonio River Walk
4.5
About
Also known as Paseo del Rio, this 15-mile-long river walk is a must-do in San Antonio. Opt for a self-guided walking or bike tour of the riverside paths, lined with beautiful cypress trees, shops, museums, hotels and of course, Tex-Mex restaurants. But one of the best ways to experience the River Walk is on a hop-on, hop-off cruise, which glides past iconic spots like the Arneson River Theatre, Marriage Island, and the San Antonio Museum of Art. Visit during festivals and holidays like St Patrick's Day and Christmas for exciting river parades and spectacular light illuminations. – Tripadvisor

    Beautiful!
An absolutely beautiful place for a walk. I was surprised by the number of fountains and water features along the way, a number of which are being refurbished. Lots of restaurants to choose from and the boat tours seem very popular. I wish that we had visited when it was a bit cooler, but we did the full loop and it was quite stunning nonetheless.

    Must-do
Every visitor to San Antonio should be required to spend some time here 😉. I’ve traveled to a lot of places and have never seen anything quite like it. So much to see and do with the restaurants, shops, and friendly people.

There is still Great Customer Service out there !!!
The Staff in valet were excellent. The person who stood out to me the most was Petra in concierge. I was having a terrible day but she managed to turn my frown upside down. The minute I walked in, I was greeted with eye contact and Petra made me feel welcome and special. Thank you Petra for ending our crazy week with not only professionalism but also humor. You are one of a kind!!!! The hotel was amazing 10+++

    nice atmosphere
A must do in San Antonio. The river walk is mostly lined with restuarants (some very over priced), so if you're wanting to shop this may not be the spot for you. But it is a nice atmosphere to just walk along the shaded path, maybe stop and have a drink or dinner. For $14 (adult) you can take a 30 minute boatride and learn about the history of the river walk. There are places to buy tickets for the boat ride along the walk. I reccomend it, especially if it is hot. A couple places along the walk have live music so fun to just sit/stand and listen.

Great once we knew where to go
Once we found the right area to go to we were good. But walking around in the august heat with a baby and a 5 year old for 30 minutes trying to find the right place sucked. But then it was really nice and beautiful.

    Amazing San Antonio River Walk!
I was there with my sisters, all grown-ups, and no teenies in my family. During the day, it is good for families with children, river guided boat trips, and restaurants. But after sunset, I would not take children with. It is really fun for young people up 16 and adults. Beautiful done, the lights, live music, excellent places to enjoy food and drinks, the architecture, the mature trees. A wonderful experience!

Stroll, People Watch, Enjoy Lunch or Dinner on the Riverwalk
A must do while in San Antonio. The Riverwalk defines San Antonio as a wonderful place to visit. You’ll meet people who go back year after year. We noticed how much cleaner the river was from the time we visited 18 months ago. We must have caught our visit perfectly. We had the entire river to ourselves. Fort Worth, TX has a plan for their own Riverwalk. Fortunately, there is only one Riverwalk and San Antonio has it.

Get away from the crowd...never mind, its crowded, too
This is just one thing that makes San Antonio unique. Turning an eyesore into the most unique place in town was a stroke of genius many years ago. Today it draws thousands of people to it as a place to eat, drink, or just stroll the bankside walks. Expanding both north and south, take the time to explore the parts away from the city loop, you won't be disappointed.

    Wonderful ambience and energy
visited on 7th July 2023 The place has restaurants, souvenior shop and hotels along a man-made canal. the place is very crowded and locals and tourists are equal frequenters at this place. live misic, energy and color sof lights make this place a must experience both for locals and tourists. boats and kanoe rides are popular at this attraction and the restaurants and bars command premium pricing and waiting time is high. Do experience an evening here along with your friends or family. Be prepared for long walk around this area. There is a concert area as well where events take place evry now and then. Riverwalk - San Antonio is all for you to enjoy.

    Nice
Have heard about it, now can say we have been there. It was very hot, but we had a great time. Even now, when hot, it looks Nice. Evenings are great as the lights make it. Many choices of places to eat, many Hotels close by within walking distance.

Awesome place to walk and feel safe. Restaurants, bars and gift shops everywhere. The boat tour was great also and informative. Definitely a highlight of our trip.

Generally I go by the rule that if there's a Hard Rock Cafe, Joe's Crab Shack, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., or a wax museum, I am probably not going to enjoy it. This place has all of those tourist trap favorites, and is still OK.

I walked the riverwalk from Pearl Brewery downtown, which was mostly just a nice stroll by a river. But I suspect most people think of the section that forms the island downtown as the 'riverwalk' - I walked that all too, and it's all pictureque; the north side more commercial but not overwhelmingly so.

I recommend at least going for a stroll through that downtown loop

Beautiful option and so calm and serene. It expands such a large part of downtown that it connects each tourist area is a safe way that avoids traffic, with trees and shade, and is so well kept and decorate it feels cultural and that people invest in it. It does get tricky in the higher traffic areas because the sidewalks aren't that large and there are no guard rails between the edge of the sidewalk and the drop off in the water

Beautiful place to visit. A must day or night. We took 17 family members on the river tour and it was wonderful and smooth. Narrator Mary Jane was funny and fun.

We come from the land of the Mall of America in MN. So we are used to big shopping. If I hadn't, I might have been more impressed. The river walk was interesting- lot's of restaurants and shops but the "river" water was grey and nasty. I felt if you fell in, you'd catch a disease. What is cool is that you can go to Alamo- which is just a couple of blocks to walk. I almost took a tour via the water taxi's, but I'm glad I stuck to walking.

To me, the San Antonio TX Riverwalk is directly out of a fairy-tale. It's quaint and pretty but don't take your bikes, hoverboards or inline skates - there's not a lot of space for any of that. We took the boat tour of the river (there's a lot of history) and ate at MadDog BritishPub. Three stars as the entire upkeep can be better especially the water, which is murky with buts of trash.

We enjoyed walking along the Riverwalk during our two evenings we stayed in San Antonio. We chose restaurants on our walk (Iron Cactus was a favorite), as well as ice cream. There were several that asked us for money on Sunday morning, but otherwise felt safe with me and my 11-year old daughter.

My only prior experience with the River Walk was during a short afternoon visit back in 1984. I've wanted to return since then. The River Walk was just as beautiful as I remembered it to be. There are so many excellent choices of restaurants, bars, shopping. There is plenty of shade and rest spots so you can enjoy strolling at your own pace. My only wish is that there would be a sort of "hop on/hop off" river boat so you could visit the whole extent of the various areas more easily.

We stayed at a hotel right on the River Walk and it couldn't have been better. We were there for 3 days and didn't need our car at all. Plenty of restaurants, shopping and lots of just browsing and people watching. Everything you need is within walking distance. It's actually a 15 mile River Walk right through the heart of San Antonio and there is plenty to do. I know we didn't do the entire 15 miles but strolled at our leisure quite a few miles. Loved it.
