With more than 8,500 animals on 56 acres, there's plenty of fun for the whole family. The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest.

Kids had a great time but it was sad to see those amazing beings locked up. Very sad indeed. Most animals in cages tried to hide from people. What if shoe was in the other foot. All need to be in their natural habitat.

I felt the price of the zoo was cheap! Very surprised. I loved the variety of animals! Very unique experience to see some animals I've never seen before. For instance an ant eater! The zoo itself is very well laid out, and it really isn't that large. They do a great job of getting you close to the animals. I... More

Took my infant grandson to Zoo Lights. He was very attentive to all the lights. The lines were not too long for pictures, family in snow globe and to see Santa. Their set up for Santa was very nice, Santa was in a separate room from the line. And they were very patient getting the pictures. I highly recommend getting... More

The zoo isn't too big and it isn't too small. Its great for spending the day at the zoo with the kids. They don't get tired from all the walking and there is plenty to keep their attention. I suggest buying the family membership and reusable cups. You get a discount on food and items, and the zoo is open... More

My small family and I recently had a very enjoyable time here. The zoo is easy to navigate and the staff is very welcoming, helpful and hospitable, to a degree I've not seen at a zoo before. Very clean and the animals seemed well cared for. Be mindful of opening and closing times. Even for right now as I write... More

We decided to go to the zoo while with our son on his day pass from Air Force base it was a pretty day and the zoo was not real crowded. We enjoyed it very much. We didn't have little kids with us but we still enjoyed it very much.

I am a zoo lover! Every time I travel, I go to the zoo where I'm visiting. I've been to many zoos. I went to the San Antonio Zoo with my daughter and one year old granddaughter. It's a smaller zoo, but the landscape is lovely! The exhibits are spacious. We had a great time. The highlights were the Lorikeets,... More

We took our granddaughter last weekend while we were in town. Very nice zoo with lots of shade from trees & nice habitats for the animals. The only drawback was there were no kid meals offered @ the restaurant on site. It is the zoo people, offer a kids meal but the burger was better than expected. The giraffe, lion... More

One of the largest, cleanest & well kept zoos I've ever been to. So much to do & see, there were tons of animals & attractions. My son really enjoyed the train ride. Although there was a long line, it was definitely worth the wait. I was definitely impressed & will definitely return.

My husband and I bought a membership and we visit about twice a month with our 3 children we never get bored. There so much to see and do. I do recommend taking your own lunch the food and restaurants are very high priced for the quality of food. And also try to go early or around lunch time that's... More
