With more than 8,500 animals on 56 acres, there's plenty of fun for the whole family. The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest.

With a friend and her daughter, I took my 3 kiddos (ages 3, 5, and 6). We purchased fun day tickets. We enjoyed the bug mania exhibit, reptile house, and the butterfly garden. We also liked Africa live and the carousel and train rides! There are...More

Super Hot in August to visit but its worth it. I suggest that young ones stroll not walk or your visit can become cranky! Don't forget the MAP and PLAN your hike or you will be making multiple circular tracks and getting no where. If...More

San Antonio Zoo is the worst I've been to. It's dirty and overpriced. Most of the animal exhibits are always empty and to be honest the area is a little sketch.

We go a few times a year, but it si always so crowded, it is often hard to enjoy the experience with our children, and many of the exibits are going through changes, so many things are missing for everyone to see.

My five close friends - all older than 70 - spent the better part of a Sunday afternoon here. We found it easy to walk, most habitats very interesting with no scary "odors". The only disappointment during our visit was that the rhino exhibit was...More

The zoo exhibits and the the grounds is nicely laid out with a variety of dining options. The food and drink prices are unreasonably high ($4.00 for a small coke!, $4.00 for a very small hot dog on a dry bun!). Aside from the food...More

It's a shame they are ruining the experience of some nice exhibits and cool animals with lousy operation of the park and making the annual passes less valuable. Entry for pass holders is totally ridiculous. You end up waiting in the same line as people...More

Great for families and young kids! The zoo was very hot and could use more shaded areas. The tot area was empty and water area was not working.

I was a little disappointed with the overall zoo. However, it would be a good visit for little children. I went with my daughter and her friend that was visiting the area. They are college age. We were expecting more from the zoo exhibits but...More

Yes, once you leave you will need to depart at the Exit Gate. Tell the attendant that you want to return back, they will stamp you. Then you may re-enter the same day without paying again.
