With more than 8,500 animals on 56 acres, there's plenty of fun for the whole family. The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest.

Great zoo! Use the coupons found everywhere. Big enough to make a day if it with the train ride included!

Visited Zoo today. Food and drinks were overpriced as usual. There was a lot of new things added since I went last. Big Bug Robotic Displays that were awesome. A lot of beautiful new landscape with plants and flowers full of vibrant colors. Restaurant was clean but the kitchen needs to improve on expediting food better. There was a lot... More

This place was big , they have a bunch of up and close animal experiences. If you look on the website they give you a schedule for the daily events, which they dont give you when you walk through the door. The children loved the butterfly's and the hippos. It is a zoo , but a big zoo with a... More

This is a nice zoo! They have a lot of animals however most of them were sleeping during our visit so we didn't really get to see much action- went went from 10am-3pm. Its really hot and there's not a lot of shade so make sure to bring water, sunscreen and anything else to keep you comfortable. Go early, like... More

I really enjoyed my time here. Very clean, friendly staff and areas are clearly marked. Food is typical of what you would expect.

This is a nice, small zoo, but what I found impressive were the number and variety of birds! Be sure to buy the little nectar cup and feed the Lories--they are so fun! Have your camera ready! They land right on your hand (or head).

We went here in October and it was a nice experience. There were animals I had never seen in captivity like the Komodo dragon. The habitats for the animals were well sized and pushed back from the public, with the exception of the birds that were able to fly free for the most part. At the time they were actively... More

I had heard about the S.A. Zoo, but this was my first visit. I was thoroughly impressed! The staff were friendly from entrance to exit, inside the entire park. I was pleasantly surprised with the selection of animals they had on display. As an animal lover, it was encouraging to see how well the animals were taken care of. Hey... More
