Came upon this mansion while walking by - free entry, not only to the garden but also the home. This was interesting to see how three sisters, who inherited this property, were able to keep it and leave it to future generations as a history museum. All the rooms are easily accessible, but there are steep narrow stairs to the upstairs. Seeing everyday items, such as enormous travel trunks, puts into perspective how different live was then. Beautiful garden which is home to a number of cardinals.

The garden was insanely beautiful. The pond was mesmerizing. I will be back with my family in the future hopefully sooner rather than later

House is back open for self-guided tours (weekends, check the PEM website for hours). (Guides are on site to answer questions).

Garden is fully replanted (note to other reviewers, garden season in New England is typically late May through late September — no reason to expect a lush garden in April!).

Visits are free for both the house and gardens.

We visited in the first week of May so they were still getting ready to plant which was fine. It was still very beautiful and the pond was very serene. I would love to have a garden like that. So many ideas.

Unfortunately we visited in April and we
Were hoping for loads of spring bloomers like daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, etc but there was only about 5 tulips. They could plant spring bulbs so the attraction to this garden could be enjoyed for longer periods as the layout is quite nice and the house is beautiful and the huge beech trees are a site to see. The house was also closed for touring.

The house is closed for the foreseeable future and the gardens are completely gone. They're we're landscaping workers there digging up the garden area to put in a walkway. One of the workers told me that the house has been closed and does open from time to time. The garden area is bare...not even grass. Sorry.

Such a beautiful mansion with a garden in the backyard. Very peaceful to walk through the garden and see a site that was in Hocus Pocus!

The history and ghost story behind this house is super spooky but the highlight for me was the garden in the back! Just wow. Simply beautiful!

It was great seeing the Ropes Mansion and other places in the Hocus Pocus movie. Places you have to visit if you enjoyed the movie.

We were lucky to be in Salem when the home had just reopened to the public. Very cool to see items from when the home was inhabited by the original family! And the garden alone is worth a visit.
