Located on New Liberty Street across from the municipal parking garage and next to the Peabody Essex Museum, the National Park Service Visitor Center is an ideal place to begin your visit to Salem and the Essex National Heritage Area. National Park Service Rangers and Volunteers will welcome you to the city and to the Heritage Area, and help you plan your visit.

Great employees working at the Visitor's Center- there was a table where people would give out maps of the city and free information. There was a good video about the parks in the area. Sadly, there was a woman being very rude to a Park...More

The Visitor Center is a good source of information for the start of your trip. Brochures and things to help you plan.

Make sure to utilize this center for information before embarking out into the Salem city. The gift shop has reasonable prices and a good collection of books on the area.

Learn what you need to hear, check out some exhibits and grab your Junior Ranger info. They had checkers there also and a couple of other items but nothing you have to see

So informative, can answer any question, movies to see, cheap! They have volunteers walking around to help, they gladly take pics and explain the displays. Very nice.

Forget paying for a guide and all that, use this public service. (Well you paid for it with your taxes so kinda free.) Rebuilt from the Old Salem Armory and well done. It is its own historic site and worth a visit for that alone....More
