We went in on a quiet Sunday AM. SIx of us on the tour. After pushing everyone to buy the three museum package for $30 each, guy behind counter more interested in his cell phone. Jack Sparrow wannabe took us into series of four badly done dioramas. There were maybe a half dozen actual "artifacts". He left us to wander through the room, then did a poor job of telling us what we already read on the placards. Not even a third rate side show. Although I bought the "package" fees, I skipped the Witch Museum and Witch Dungeon up the road because I figured they were just as cheesy.

We visited here because we had a combo ticket with the Witch History and Witch Dungeon museums, so we felt compelled to go. At that point, we were pretty saturated with wax museums (we had visited the Salem Witch museum the day before in addition to the two other aforementioned attractions), so maybe that colored my review. In any case, we were expecting at least a fun, non-animatronic Pirates of the Caribbean-like walk-through. Instead, we were greeted with an overwhelmingly strong smell of mildew and an unenthusiastic host. I felt dirty when I came out of there, and didn't even want to touch anything in the gift shop lest the smell follow me home. Some of the stories were interesting and compelling. But honestly, I just couldn't wait to get out. See it once, if you have a combo ticket. But if you don't, it's definitely skippable.

A joyful learning experience for young and old. From the chance to touch real pirate treasure to the opportunity to see hundreds of shipwreck relics, this wonderful new museum offers entertainment and information for young and old. With an enthusiastic, extremely knowledgeable host, our group enjoyed their time learning about pirate adventures. Well done!

Fun narrated tour of two floors by historian with highlights of New England pirates. Max was a fun guide. Wax figures were fun and lots of interpretive texts on the walls with further detail. Authentic piece of eight in the collection.

Today I had an opportunity to visit the “New” Real Pirates Salem Museum with my son and 10-year-old grandson. The place is amazing and has quality exhibits. It is an interactive museum where people of all ages can relive maritime history from the past. Salem was an important commercial port that traded with the Far East. Many captains lived in Salem and helped the area flourish. What is more fascinating is that the Museum has artifacts from the Pirate ship Whyda that sank in 1717 and was found off Cape Cod in 1984. I highly recommend visiting this museum during your trip to Salem, MA.

Don't support this business!! The owners don't take care of their own buildings, let alone their employees. Employees aren't even allowed a 15 minute break or 30 minute lunch break. Now that's common practice that employees get some form of break, not here though! It might seem like a cute little place to take your kids, but don't be fooled. You will be displeased with "dressed up mannequins" and a very disgusting mildew smell. Not to mention, there have been instances of homophobia and body shaming. It is all around a bad experience, whether you work there or want to take a tour. P.S don't get trapped by the combo ticket, 31$ for a combo ticket for the pirate, witch history, and witch dungeon museum. Not worth it, obvious tourist trap.

Had an awesome experience with the tour guide we had! He was so funny and kept everybody interested in the awesome facts we were learning about pirates! I have been coming here for years, but this tour guide was probably the best one I’ve ever seen! little spot to check out, and would certainly come back here again, as I do every year!

Was a fun and interesting time. Our tour guide I think his name was Marcus was so informative and entertaining! His jokes were great and his energy was amazing. Loved seeing the different flags that pirates used.

Just visited the Pirate Museum, Max was our tour guide. It was very entertaining. He was very interesting, funny and as I said, entertaining. I've seen some of the bad reviews, I'm sure it depends on the tour guide. He made the tour a success! It was our first time in Salem, so we've done lots of the tours. This was by far the most fun! We also had a baby in a stroller and even though there are stairs the people were very accommodating!

We took our children, son 8, who is extrememly into pirates, daughters 9 & 2. It was better than I expected it to be. The only problem was parking!
My son was just fascinated with the place. Even my daughter enjoyed it.
We would definately recommend taking a day trip here. The surrounding area is a great place to walk around.

I am a travel writer who will be in Salem on Sept 16 2015. I was wondering if there is a book discussing the museum. I would like to write an article of the museum.
Respectfully,
Thomas McGovern Jr.
