Great place to view a beautiful sunset! There is somewhat limited parking, but plenty of room to climb around and claim a rock to watch the sky illuminate in gorgeous colors!

I come out here often to escape from the urban landscape. There is a sea of cacti as soon as you cross the edge of Gates Pass road. It's on the west side of Tucson, and it's easy to get to. Just take Speedway Blvd...More

You can make a nice loop of the southwestern part of Tucson by heading west on Ajo Parkway (AZ86), turning right on Tucson Mountain Parkway to see the "mountain" and park, then taking Gates Pass Road back to I10.

Gates Pass covers a broad expanse, but the most memorable point is the lookout area (designated on area maps.) The alignment of the sun at sunset, the wide open spaces peppered with saguaros, and the broad, uncluttered expanse of sky combine for a breathtaking &...More

The trail not maintained or groomed so it is a bit rocky. Indeed worth the effort to hike it though for the wildflowers, many species of cactus, possibly wildlife sightings if you are quiet and some of the most beautiful vistas around the Tucson area.

I'd read that the Gates Pass overlook (a turn-out and small parking lot at the top of a hill) was the place to view sunsets. It turned out to be a lovely spot, even as it rained a little bit. There's space for about 15-20...More

We went on a cloudy, overcast day in December near sunset which turned out to be very pleasant. There weren't as many people out, the temperature was comfortable for hiking, and the clouds helped set of the setting sun nicely. Excellent views looking back towards...More

Fun drive, beautiful views of the saguaro cacti... Stop at the loop on the top to stretch your legs and get up close and personal with the saguaros. Beautiful view.

This area is beautiful and ideal for walking and especially hiking, but try to go when the weather is scorching hot because a saguaro doesn't offer much shade, and take a LOT of water!

There is parking both at the top and bottom of the pass. Don't know how many spaces at the top but the gated area at the bottom will hold 30plus vehicles.

All above are true. There is a couple of parking lots off the road and a covered viewing area but no picnic facilities, no grills or bathrooms. Just parking and trails.

You can stay in the parking lot and see the sunset or go to a paved overlook area right next to the lot.
