Glad we picked this road to head back to Tucson. Short drive, nice views. We did not take the pass on the way out of town because we weren't sure how "cliff hanger" it would be. So glad we took it on way back to town. Very short area might be scary for some drivers but that is a VERY... More

Took the Gates Pass route by accident back to Tucson after going to the western district (Tucson Mountain District) of the Saguaro National Park. So glad to have done that. The drive is well worth the time. Nice views along the way.

We took friends through Gates Pas after driving through Saguaro National Park west a few weeks ago. After stopping at the visitor center we continued our drive and saw the beauty of the desert up close and personal. The views of the national park from Gates Pass were spectacular, even on a hazy day. The drive is a bit curvy... More

It's a short drive from town to get the Gates Pass and well worth it. Great place to see native cacti and watch the sunset.

We had traveled from Green Valley to the Desert Museum and then just went through this area on the way from there to Tucson...scenic drive.

If you are around it's nice to visit. It will take you about 15 minutes to drive true slowly . Lots of place to stop for pictures. Pretty safe.

The road through gates pass offer many wonderful views of the desert. Also, the road leads to Old Tucson and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, both great places to visit.

A narrow and winding road. It forces you to go slow. But even though being a challenge to the driver it is well worth it. We drove a convertible and did that road up whenever we went to the desert museum and beyond.

We drove Gates Pass after visiting the west (Tucson Mountain Park) side of Saguaro National Park in April 2017. It is the "long way" to Tucson from the Park, but well worth it for the spectacular terrain and views of the saguaro and the desert. The road is a true pass through the mountains, windy and slow, which adds to... More

This pass is an exciting drive with great views of saguaros. There are scenic viewpoints at both the top and the bottom of the pass so it is easy to stop in order to take photographs. I was glad that we hadn't missed this road.
