Scenery changes from desert to mountain pine in 25 minutes. Beautiful drive and recommend it to anyone wanting something out of the oridinary so close to Tucson. Also visit the USA 's most southern ski lift at the top.

Gates pass is probably the best place to catch the sunset in the Tucson area. Can be crowded around that time.

This is one of the most scenic slots in the Tucson area. Great desert views and a nice drive make this very enjoyable.

This is the best place in Tucson to watch the sun set! Park, climb up the hill to a comfortable rock and enjoy

As a cyclist, this route is very popular for us, we like the rolling hills and the steep incline up the back of Gates. But it is one horrendous road for being bumpy. Its not too long and you see a a lot.

Gates pass is a short passage through the mountains with an easy turnoff. Paths depart from the parking area. The area is flanked by a state park so the cacti and vegetation are lush and undisturbed. The road becomes narrow and twisting for about a...More

This is located just outside Tucson. Easy to get to and a relatively easy walk up the hill. This being said you still should watch your footing as there could be loose rocks. It does remind you somewhat of a western movie with the surrounding...More

Where we parked at the base of the trail there is a gravel parking lot that will hold about 12 cars.

All above are true. There is a couple of parking lots off the road and a covered viewing area but no picnic facilities, no grills or bathrooms. Just parking and trails.

You can stay in the parking lot and see the sunset or go to a paved overlook area right next to the lot.
