Wow what a beautiful road. i'll keep it brief... 1. Bring a camera 2. Take your time 3. Check the weather! It's often 20 degrees cooler at the summit than the base 4. Enjoy a cookie at the café near the top (not cheap, but very yummy!)

A gorgeous drive up into the mountains northeast of Tucson. We drove right up to the ski hill and back down in just over 2 hours. There are a lot of pull outs and stops to allow for pictures and enjoying the view.

I only drove a little more than half way to the top, but the curves weren't bad and the views were lovely.

Wow! We are so glad we explored this scenic drive. With lunch at Summerhaven, it made for a most enjoyable day. There are many viewpoints to check out as well as hiking opportunities.

Beat the heat, & take this drive! Plan to take a picnic too! There’s no food until you get to the top, about an hour’s drive out of Tucson on very curvy roads. If you have time, be sure to stop along the way. Check out the campgrounds. Visit the site of a Japanese Internment Camp. Marvel at the hoodoo... More

It is a breathtaking drive as the vegetation changes from Saguaros to brush to pines at the top of the mountain. You will view incredible vistas on both sides of the road as you ascend. You will arrive at Summerhaven at elevation 8200 ft. where there is a ski valley and you can go even higher on the ski lift.... More

This drive will take you through many diverse types of terrain - from desert floor with cactus, up through grassland, and finally into alpine trees. There was even snow though it was 90 in the desert!

Don't miss this drive while you are in Tucson. In April we went from 88 degrees in town to 63 at the top at Summerhaven. Beautiful drive with breathtaking scenery.
