We took a friend from Seattle here to look for some fun gift items for her teenaged grand daughter. Plenty of items to choose from in the various vintage and costume-type shops.

Small shopping area with some restaurants and bars. College town hang out on weekends. Not my favorite area.

Miss your younger days of flared bell bottoms and panhandling on the corner? Of cheap eats and free love? Well you can find everything but the free love on Tucson's 4th Avenue, where it's still the 60's and 70's. Well, not really, but it really is a fun stroll from the Epic Cafe on the north end (classic laid-back coffee... More

4th Avenue is just a stone's throw from Hotel Congress, the train station, and all the nice, neat , new clubs that are popping up downtown. What sets it apart is that fourth avenue has traditionally catered to the college crowd from the University of Arizona whereas the downtown caters to, well, downtowners primarily. Probably a good 15 or more... More

Fourth Ave is part old city part upscale shopping. Parking is a bit tricky if you can't do longer walks as it gets really crowded, especially on Friday market days. But there are some really unique places and kitchy little places tucked away amid the college crowd hangouts.

When I think of independent shops and restaurants, this is exactly what I'm imagining. It's fun and relaxed, and has something for everyone.

We have been coming to Tucson for years to visit friends and family. We try to time at least one visit to coincide with the 4th Avenue Street Fair. The Fair is scheduled twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. They have a great variety of vendors in the fair. This Art Fair is juried... More

4th Ave is a Tucson original. It's great for visitors and locals. It has home grown businesses and restaurants. It has an assortment of eclectic shops
