The San Xavier Mission is absolutely beautiful. We are not of the Catholic faith but we're still very moved by this church. The building itself is so photogenic against the backdrop of the blue Arizona sky that you'll find yourself taking shot after shot, trying to capture the perfect angle. Inside the mission the artwork is breathtaking. When we were there,... More

I have brought both family and friends here. The church has a very old historical value and you can attend a Catholic Mass here. The gift shop has many fine articles for tourists. The native plants on the landscapes are beautiful.

Stunning wall murals. A functioning church that exemplifies a bit of history taken out of time. Must see.

San Xavier is located in SW Tucson on the Tohono O'odham reservation. It was started in the late 1600s-early 1700s by a Catholic priest to convert the (then-named) Pima Indians and is still a working church. The mission, chapel, gift shop & outbuildings are currently being restored, but are open to the public (free). Besides services, they also host festivals... More

My wife and I visited San Xavier in early March and were lucky enough to be able to take the free docent lead tour. The building is clearly of great historic significance within the context of regional history and it forces one to consider the lives of people over several centuries who have worked, lived and prayed at San Xavier.... Mission San Xavier del Bac is a historic Spanish Catholic mission with roots back to the 17th century. Built by the O'odham Indians, it is the oldest European structure in Arizona. It is widely considered to be the finest example of Spanish Colonial architecture in the United States. Recently restored inside and out it a beauty to behold and worthy... More

You really must go inside to appreciate this church but the outside is easily spotted from the highway as this white beacon. The plaza is quite open and there is almost no shade, so be careful when you visit to not dehydrate. There is a museum and gift shop inside and there are vendors of fried bread in the plaza... More

One of my favorite Tucson experiences. I am sure to return someday. We did not take the guided tour but even walking around by ourselves was a terrific experience. Inside the church was, to me, simply breath-taking. The paintings and statues were truly lovely. The people watching was interesting as well....
