I noticed that the museum had a Pancho Villa exhibit and since I had some time, I walked over. Not only did I learn so much about the general/folk hero/bandit and the times he lived in, but I made it to the next part, an exhibit about the Apache Chief Geronimo. For both, there were many original and unique photos,... More

This is a small museum near the University of Arizona campus. There is a large parking garage very close so you can try that if you don't find parking on the street. The museum does a good job depicting the main historical events that shaped this part of Arizona. This include some very interesting displays about mining. The very diverse... More

Great place to visit during hot temps in Tucson. Lots to see and learn. My kids had a great time. Great mine area experience.

This visit was planned to "kill time" while our husbands were riding in the El Tour de Tucson. It turned into a 3 hour trip back in time and the many unknown people, places and events that make up the great state of Arizona. Surprises seemed to wait around every corner and interesting artifacts from American Indian culture, mining culture,... More

This museum isn't fancy and it sometimes looks a little improvised. But what makes it special and what really amazed us was their approach of presenting history by telling the stories of the people involved. So many photos, artefacts, and detailed information which portrayed common people, leaders, fighters, merchants, pioneers, engineers, politicians and told their stories and showed their faces.... We parked at the ramp to go to the visitor center and noticed we needed to get our parking validated at the historical society. Once we went to the visitor center we went to the museum. The entrance fee is low, and the exhibits well done. My favorite was the section on mining with the mine tunnel, and mining machinery.... More

This museum gives a great overview of the history of AZ and also gives a bit of local history. The current special feature concerning Poncho Villa was very interesting and we learned quite a bit about him that we did not know. Give this at least a couple of hours to do it justice. Make sure to get your parking... More

You would be amazed at everything housed in this museum. You will get a real education on the past history of Tucson and what it was like to live here in those times. Very interesting and information . . . an education for young and old.

If you have an interest in learning about the early settlers of the Tucson area, you should stop by and see the exhibits here.

The museum has a few shortcomings. Many artifacts are not identified and interpreted, leaving the viewer wondering exactly what they are and where they came from. They had a very good exhibit on Geronimo and one on Poncho Villa.
