My mother and I visited MacGregor Ranch museum to visit one afternoon shortly after my father passed away. We went to the gift shop and the wonderful sweet and kind woman working told us we could walk the property since we missed the tour but we could just not go inside the historic home, which we were fine with. So about 15 minutes into my mom and I walking around the ranch, we heard an old cowboy whistling and yelling all the way across the ranch at us to come back. Needless to say we were not sure he was talking to us, we were not sure what was going on and it was incredibly embarrassing for my mom and I. We walked back towards the gift shop and he just frowned at us and didn't say a word. It was incredibly embarrassing and to this day I'm not sure what we did wrong. The woman in the gift shop had to come out and apologize to us and explained she had told the old cowboy we were fine doing what we were doing but apparently he had his own agenda and we were not in it. Needless to say we did not feel welcomed by the old cowboy at all in fact I will not be visiting this Ranch again. Huge bummer considering I'm very involved with local history and on numerous committees!! Honestly my mom and I were walking holding hands having a moment talking about my father, and I question if the old cowboy thought it was two women in a relationship and he didn't like what he saw. That would explain why he had nothing to say to us when we returned upon his rude request of whistling and yelling across at us to return.

My husband and I had a couple hours to kill while we were in Estes Park, and he suggested we check out this quaint ranch. We were the only 2 on the tour, but it was the BEST $5.00 you will spend. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the ranch, and the setting was the most BEAUTIFUL around Estes! (And that is saying something!!) I would definitely recommend taking a couple hours and check it out!

This is a beautiful, working ranch that was one of the finest and earliest in the Estes Park area. The MacGregor's built a lovely ranch house and outbuildings, which to this day remains a working ranch under a trust that Muriel MacGregor set up to make sure the ranch would remain for educational/historical purposes upon her death in 1970. There are not as many acres left as the original ranch had, but it is still impressive. The original home is filled with artifacts from the MacGregor family and gives you a good feel for what life would have been like for them in the 1870's. The tour is well worth it, with access to the home, milk house, smoke house, the blacksmith's and part of the property. Murial and her parents have a small mausoleum on the property, Alexander and Clara died in 1950, Muriel died in 1970 at the age of 66. The views are outstanding, the ranch beautiful. The docents there are very knowledgable and can answer just about any question you might throw at them! It certainly makes you ponder what things might have been like in the early days of Estes Park. This is something you don't want to miss, especially if history is your thing. Be sure to check if the tours are operating, they have closed this year for the season (Aug 25th, 2018)

This is still a working ranch with lots of history of the Estes Park area. Our docent was very knowledgeable and took lots of time to explain the unique history of the area. Really enjoyed it!

This place is truly a hidden gem. First of all, don’t follow your GPS. It is wrong. Call for directions, or look it up. This ranch is one of the finest examples of an early homestead ranch anywhere in Colorado. It features stunning views, a wonderful main house that you can take a tour of, and numerous outbuildings , as well as a large garden and beautiful hay meadow. Jenny, our tour guide, was the best. She gave us lots of information about both the house and it’s occupants. This is a wonderful place to visit if you are in Estes Park.

We took out 7, 8, and 10 year old kids here while we were on a short vacation in Estes park. The docent was very knowledgable and interesting. The kids thought it was very neat that the family matriarch was related to Laura ingalls wilder. We probably spent about 90 minutes exploring the outbuildings, and having the tour of the house.

Spent about an hour here, did the docent tour of house, complete with original furnishings. Also, has out buildings to explore, and is actually a working ranch, today, with Angus cattle on property, and chicken coop, garden, and small gift shop.

We were underwhelmed by touristy Estes Park, but we loved the MacGregor ranch, which was a lovely gem of a place to visit. Our guide, Evelyn, was informative and engaging, and we came away knowing much more about homesteading and about the ranch’s rich history. A must visit.
