- S DAlabama8 contributionsPhenomenal Fishing TripPhenomenal trip! My son and I had a blast fishing with John from Kirk’s fly shop. Very professional operation from start to finish. John was a fantastic guide, he was patient with my 12 year old son as he learned the art of fly fishing. We caught a bunch of fish and should’ve caught a bunch more! Great time!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 October 2023
- Dan BurrosFort Collins, Colorado10 contributionsExcellent Trip!!!Second trip with Kirk’s and I’d highly recommend them! My daughter and I had a great day in RMNP on the St. Vrain and then on private waters in the Big Thomson with Jerry! Kirk’s outfitted my daughter with everything she needed and Jerry made sure she got fish!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 October 2023
- Rachel O7 contributionsSnowshoeing in RMNPJohn took our family (husband and I, adult daughter and her boyfriend) to RMNP for a snowshoeing experience. He gave us options for our trip and did a great job teaching us how to snowshoe. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip. He gave us great suggestions for more hikes later in the week. We highly recommend this outfitter for your next trip!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 March 2024
- dene_midMaryland12 contributionsSnow Shoeing Excursions in RMNPKent was our guide on two snow shoeing treks in RMNP. These were simply amazing. He did a great job for myself and a teenage daughter to really get the most out of it. The trips were customized to our abilities. He had a lot of information about the park and the areas we were in. We went to places we would not have been able to go to on our own as first timers to the park. Could not recommend more! We left we amazing photos and very fond memories.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 March 2024
- Jeff PNorth Carolina5 contributionsGreat day on the waterThis trip was a college graduation gift to my son. Being our first time to Colorado and our first ever guided fishing trip we didn’t know what to expect. Our guide, John, gave a choice of what kind of water we wanted to fish and we chose the smaller streams with wild trout. The learning curve took a little time, being from the foothills of North Carolina our fishing style was a little different. John patiently gave us some tips and after a few holes we were off to the races. We had a great day fishing some beautiful water and caught enough fish that I lost count. Thanks to John and the guys at shop for a great experience!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 May 2024

- tna2eyeballsMars, Pennsylvania25 contributionsHighlight of the chic retreat!Mark and owner Kirk were AWESOME! Five women, two had never fly-fished before or even touched a fish all had a great experience. Mark and Kirk obviously love to teach people how to fly-fish and share their knowledge of the Big Thompson River. They kept us moving around the river so we all caught fish, changing out the rods and flies as needed. I cannot wait to return!Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 September 2024

Highlight of the trip to RMNP. I went on 2 all day hikes with Andy. He was absolutely outstanding. The first hike was of the Ouzel Lake area and the second was the Odessa Lake loop. On both hikes we went well off the regular trails which was absolutely outstanding!! The views were spectacular. Andy is an incredibly knowledgeable guide and really customized the hikes to ensure I got the most out of them. I am so glad I booked through Kirks and would highly recommend them and Andy!

Three adults took the 4-hour beginner's fly fishing class here. One woman joined the class, so that kept it small. They learned a lot, and got a good introduction to the sport.
The one negative? Too much talking, and not enough fishing! Also, the drive to the fishing spot (obviously necessary) took away from fishing time.
They all caught fish during the river portion of the class (strictly catch and release). All equipment was provided. A little pricey, with a tip, but they all enjoyed it. They said the instructor was knowledgeable and fun!

Our guide Tommy was the bomb. We are beginners and Tommy was super helpful with instructions and making it a fun experience. He told us we'd catch big fish and we did all day.
.
He displayed his athletic skills when we both landed tanks at the same time with his great net skills. Ask for Tommy and have a GREAT time!

Words are really not enough to describe this incredible fly fishing experience. I took a solo guided 6 hour trip through Kirks with my guide Jack. I was here on vacation and heard Kirks was the best and they are, but all credit to my guide and now friend Jack. I opted for some private land access for $45 and would have paid more if I knew the size and amount of fish I would catch. Gear was provided, lunch was provided, and all I had to do was fish. First 3 casts and we landed a monster rainbow, 18in! After that was more of the same, over and over again. Jack helped me catch the trout grand slam of rainbow, brown, and cutbow. I lost count on nettings after 12 there were so many. The rainbows were jumping, running, and dragging line. Jack knew what fly combos to use, how to use, and exactly where to use. Several holes produced multiple large catches one after another. I cannot say enough about this day, one I will not forget. Thank you Kirks and many thanks to my guide Jack!

Our diverse group of 4 scheduled a 4-hour fly fishing adventure on 9/16/2022. Only one of us (65y/o) had been fly fishing before, but he was no longer physically able to get in the water and wanted to fish from the shore. That was a challenge for our guides, Ben and Steven, but they did an awesome job of providing an excellent experience for ALL of us despite one person's physical disabilities. The rest of us donned our waders and looked forward to getting in the water. Ben and Steven were extremely attentive and encouraging at all times and made sure that each fish we caught (there were many!!) was celebrated. Because of our disabled member, Steven and Ben took us to the dam near the hydroelectric plant which turned out to be full of fish. Each of us caught multiple fish. All of us had a great time and it turned out to be a wonderful day.

I was a bit taken back when our guides brought my family to a river on a municipal golf course to fish. This was because when I made the reservation, I was told we would enter RMNP to fish.
But I guess our guides knew what they were doing for we caught about 13 fish.
Great experience!

Jim Boyd will definitely put you on the fish! No matter your experience or level of interest he tailors the trip to you and keeps the conversations lively throughout. He is always up beat and is constantly wanting to see you catch fish. We booked a 6 hr trip and my brother and I caught 60+ fish each! He knows the ins and outs of the area and can take you to some pretty cool places!

I agree that is an amazing experience and not many people catch 60+ fish in 6 hours. It says a lot about how quickly you picked up on fly fishing and your willingness to learn more from Jim.

My family was out from the East Coast so I wanted to give them a taste of Colorado outdoor life and our 6hr fly fishing adventure in RMNP! We fished at two different spots - St Vrain and a bit further in for 'pocket water' - and all four of my family members caught a fish at some point. Our guide Kent was top notch - super knowledgeable, patient with everyone, and clearly passionate about his job. I can't say enough good things about him except I hope Kirks knows how lucky they are to have him. Thanks for a day my family and I will never forget!

I did an awesome 8 hour guided day wade flyfishing trip to the Big Thompson River in the canyon and in Rocky Mountain National Park in Moraine Meadows. I caught 6 beautiful trout, including Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, and a Cutbow Trout. My guide, Lucas, was awesome. He is extremely knowledgeable and guided me to best places to fish and how to set up my rod and flies for success. And improved my technique. I had such a great time that I booked a 2 1/2 hour evening session with Lucas for two days later. I am an avid intermediate level fly fisherman. My 40 year old son went out flyfishing for the first time with Lucas and me. I gave him an introductory lesson on casting the day before. Lucas was awesome with my son and helped my son a lot with proper fly fishing technique. He had a great time and caught a 14” Brown Trout. I caught two smaller trout. My son is now hooked on flyfishing! This is my sixth and seventh time out with a guide in the past 14 months in Colorado and Montana. Lucas was awesome and I highly recommend him.
Kirk’s Flyshop is well stocked with high quality big name products in a beautiful shop and great products. Kirk, the Owner is a great guide and great, very kind human being. He took out a handicapped child and his father from New Hampshire fly fishing on a boat. Obviously he is the most experienced and in demand guide but he took out this handicapped, wheelchair bound child and his father to fly fish for trout. Lo and behold this child with Kurt’s guidance caught an amazing, gigantic 36” Muskie. I saw the beaming, proud child at the rear of the shop with his huge catch. See attached photo. This says it all about what a great human being Kurt is in bringing joy to a handicapped child facing great challenges in life.

This is still our favorite Colorado memory! It was our first time Fly Fishing and our patient guide Kent Anderson spent the time to coach us until we were catching fish left and right. Everything from renting waders to linking up with Kent on the river was extremely smooth. Would 100% recommend this experience!!

Paula,
I don't know why Trip Adviser did not put your review up. I have waited for them to respond but no luck. Anyway, we really appreciate your great review, just wish Trip Adviser had let others see it.

I'm not a fishing sort person, I e. I don't want to sit all day and wait. I am interested in learning about fly fishing ( who knew right?). Do you have guides who will teach me at least how to start and the mechanics?
How far in advance should I schedule and what time of year is best? What are your rates? Do you have a website? Can't find a link to it here.
Thank you
