This is the electric plant for the town of Estes Park and the Stanley Hotel. My father the scientist brought me here. I probably would not have found the site otherwise. Very interesting.

Was worth the stop to see and learn about the power supply of days gone by as brought by Stanley to originally provide electricity to his hotel. Docent knowledgeable. Could even be better with old photos framed, hung and labeled with dates on the walls.

Went on a Wednesday afternoon but no one was available to let us in the buildings. We were lucky enough to have the great grandson of the station engineer with us, so we still had some history of the plant and house where his great grandparents lived for many years. Nice, peaceful place to visit away from the tourism of... More

On a whim, we drove the short distance to the Hydroplant from Estes Park one afternoon last week (hours are limited, so check before you go). We are so glad we went! After reading the history on the kiosk as you enter the property, we were greeted by Bob (a volunteer). Bob gave us a short, but very interesting history... More

We went on a Wednesday in order to also see the portrayal of Mr. F.O. Stanley one hour presentation at 10:30AM which was terrific and well worth the small $7. fee After that presentation we went to the free guided tour of the hydro plant that Mr. Stanley had been primarily responsible for it's creation in order to bring electicity... If you're tired of the majestic wonder of nature and want something different to do in town. It was smaller than I imagined. But I did get some interesting photos out of the drive and the plant. If you like history or mechanics you will enjoy this and the Stanley steamer car museum.

My husband really loved this self tour and I found it was a very interesting as well as a different type of historic site. It has a pretty amazing history & part in the area's development at the turn of the 20th Century. Very interesting to engineering lovers and building of historic town. Free. Great pictures and interpretive panels. However... More

Located between downtown Estes and the Fall River entrance to RMNP, this is an intriguing stop for history buffs and engineers alike. Free docent-led tours take you through the restored 90+ year-old facilities. While we weren't as curious about the mechanics of the plant as some, we were very interested in how the history of the plant tied into the... More

Built by Mr. Stanley to power his hotel in the early days. Two people ther to walk us around and tell you so the history and demise of the plant. Good place to spend an hour.

Very interesting place to find out more of the history of the Estes Park area and the Lawn Lake flood of 1982. Free admission and knowledgeable tour guides. You can also tour on at your own leisure.
