It's a short hike from the trailhead in Hermit Park, which is 3 miles east of Estes Park. You drive up about 2.5 miles, park in a parking lot to the east of the restroom buildings, and hike starting west up the trail, which is marked. It's only a 4 mile round trip, so won't exhaust reasonably fit flatlanders. Dogs are allowed there, too. When you get to the top of the trail there is a fun, short, easy scramble to the summit, where you get great views of Estes Park, the Continental Divide mountains, Lumpy Ridge, and to the east you can look down into Hermit Park. There is a $6 fee to enter Hermit Park, and it is closed in the winter.

This is a moderately challenging hike with tremendous views. The trailhead is in Hermit Park Open Area. Admission to the park is $6 for a day pass. The hike gains a little less than 1000 ft in elevation, which makes it a moderately difficult hike. One gains a great view overlooking Estes Park about 1 mile in. It is an additional 1 mile to the summit, with wonderful views of Long Peak. A very safe and brief rock scramble through a crack in the rock accesses the summit. Great rewards for the level of effort expended.

Amazing 360 view on top of the rock. Make certain you scale the crevasse between the rock to get to the very top. Truly breathtaking views.

Moderate hike climbing 1k feet over 2 miles with a steep stretch the last .25 mile of the trail. Good for everyone jut go prepared with water, protein and maybe a good walking stick.

2 hours in and 1 hour out and that was with lots of stops along the way.

Amazing hike.

Parking is right at trailhead but AllTrails map may lead you to alternate parking you just need to walk across the pavilion and back to the road and you will see stairs which is the trailhead

The elevation gain is about 1000 feet in just two miles, so it is a fairly steep hike with some rock scrambling at the end. But the views are great...360 from the top, and almost the much just below the rock scrambling part. There are also a couple of fine lookouts along the way.

This beautiful hike begins in Hermit Park, a Larimer County Open Space fee area. Take U.S. Hwy 36 south of Estes Park two or three miles to the well-marked entrance. Follow the road to the green-roofed pavilion. Parking is on one side of the pavilion and the Kruger Rock trailhead on the other. This is an easy to moderate hike for the fit and acclimated . It does climb nearly 1000' in 2 miles, but the hiker is rewarded with magnificent views all the way up. The summit achieved, you feel like you are on top of the world!

I go here frequently as a local. It is close to town and a good option for a shortish hike. and if you don't feel like going into the park. You get a lot of bang for the buck here: good trail, nice flowers and just a spectacular view from the summit. Plus not that many people. there is a day use fee if you don't have the county park permit. Definitely worth it in any season.

Kruger Rock is a very beautiful moderate hike with a steep ascent. It has fantastic views of Estes Park below once you reach the Summit. The best part is that it is dog friendly. We bring our dog to Estes every year and it is a popular hike for people with pets. There are not many dog friendly hikes since pets are not allowed in RMNP.

We ran our dog out here during the afternoon. With plenty of leash lead, she thoroughly enjoyed the space.

Really great trail, moderate and good for my husband and I who don't really hike! The length is so worth it once you get to the summit of Kruger Rock. We would definitely recommend.

If you go to Estes Park to hike the mountains, give Kruger Rock a try. It's off the beaten path of RMNP, and frankly the trailhead is a bit hard to find even after you enter into its home of Hermit Park. We liked that it is dog friendly and presents a moderate challenge. Get an early start on warm days, bring plenty of water and wear good walking or hiking shoes. Once you make it to the top, the wooded slope becomes a rocky crevice. Squeeze through and you'll have the beautiful mountains in front of you and Lake Estes and its surroundings below. Well worth the effort! To replace the calories burned, treat yourself to a great meal at one of the many restaurants in Estes Park!
