We took our car up this road and there were a couple places that scared me a little but we made it through in a small car. It was worth the trip. We did the loop after hiking the boy scout tree trail.

If you have a regular sized car and the time to spare, drive Howland Hills Road through the Redwood trees for a scenic experience. We enjoyed our drive. However the road is dusty, so all the trees and plants within 10 feet of the road...More

We're visiting with young children. The scenery is beautiful. The trees are amazing. We hiked on the boy scout trail. It was a great hike with beautiful views. Or boys are 9, 7, and 4. The boy scout trail was tough for the 4 year...More

Take the drive. I once sat in the back of a truck and filmed the entire drive through this forest. It was hard to believe. Once of the neatest things you will ever do. Take the drive, and take some pics!

If you want an intimate redwood experience, this largely unpaved road is the ticket. We’ve taken it in the spring and fall, and when things are wet, we were glad to have an SUV with AWD. At that time of year you should check in...More

This road is 10 miles long and a bit rough. It is narrow and dusty so you have to drive real slow. There are several places to hike if you so desire. Your vehicle will pick up a good layer of dust if you drive...More

I only wish I had a convertible to really crane my neck ALL the way. So fun, and the hiking can't be beat. Be careful and courteous of the others who are just a awestruck and trying to find a trail or a trail head....More

tough driving and very tough on your vehicle -- many amazing trees and sights -- watch for on-coming traffic, especially for the occasional driver who thinks they are in a race

This is a somewhat narrow dirt road. However, everyone drives slow and is courteous of other vehicles. We saw RV’s on this road so a minivan will be fine. It’s beautiful and worth the drive!

We stayed at Scopa by the Sea- in Crescent City. Purpose-built, cute, nautical-themed B&B with an awesome host and incredible breakfast!
