Great Museum in Old Town Albuquerque
This is a very worthwhile place to visit while in Old Town Albuquerque. We happened to visit before 1 pm. On Sunday and were pleasantly surprised to receive complimentary admission. We viewed a wonderful photography exhibit (Journey West: Danny Lyon). There are beautiful sculptures on the museum grounds as well as exhibit halls inside. We are glad we included this on our agenda.

Combo art & history - some of each
Sunday before 1 pm is free admission. Interesting photgraphy exhibit - alternative title: Danny Lyon chronicles marginal and slightly wasted lives with (more) empathy (than perhaps they deserve). Depending on one's viewpoint / but it is an interesting look. Art, from tradttional to modern, local history (an entire gallery on women in local news?) Lots of sculpture outside, nicely rendered, gneerally realism. Fair bit of NM history - as though they wanted to supplement the SF version up the road ('they have an art museum and history museum - we'll build a larger modern structure and combine the mission') I expect your experience will vary with what's showing at the moment; feels like 50% of the space at least rotates for special exhibits.

    Impressive Sculpture Garden
Just of Route 66, In the heart of Old Town sits the Albuquerque Museum formerly the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History. It has artworks in all traditions, from the works of indigenous peoples to Spanish colonial. We were running late so we only saw the artwork in the sculpture gardens outside, but that in itself, was very impressive, especially the La Journada exhibit.

Beautiful small museum in Old Town ABQ
This is a beautiful small art museum you can easily visit in a couple of hours. The Coast to Coast to Coast exhibit has a variety of art mediums and styles and I loved the Only in Albuquerque exhibit which also provided a nice history of NM and ABQ. I like to visit the local art museums when I travel and would definitely recommend this one.

The security guards there were very rude followed me everywhere I went I felt very uncomfortable. I was trying to enjoy myself and take some pictures and the security guard got real rude to me and told me to stay a foot away from the picture. And in the hallway I was drinking some bottled water and he told me I'm not allowed to drink bottled water at the museum. I told him I had a chronic kidney disease he told me he don't care the security guard was very rude. This happened January 21st at 2:00 p.m. no I would not suggest to bring my friends here again

It's a disappointment of a museum. What they do have is good, and they try. However, this is a very small museum for such a large city. Tucson and El Paso both have MUCH better and larger art museums.

Lovely people working at the museum! Eight exhibits were open and all were interesting and beautiful! Lunch at the cafe was super delicious!

Wow - what a diverse mix of art and history! Well done and organized. The water feature outside is unique and interesting. Even the gift shop has a fun selection of items. Definitely worth your time.

I travel and visit life of museums in the US and other countries. This is one of my favorites. I visit every time I go to Albuquerque. It's large and diverse, always well-curated. I especially like modern sculpture, and the sculpture garden out front isn't... but it's sure worth a look.

I'm also impressed that the museum is run by the City of Albuquerque. Although the city has its share of problems, this is a shining star.

We spent several hours here both indoors with the art and inside exhibits as well as in the sculpture garden outside on a lovely winter day. WE were able to leave for a midday tour of the town and then return to see some more after the tour.
