Just not a lot to do here. Interesting to read how they think some of the wood got here given the current landscape but a few hours was more than enough. This is probably the best walk.

I love the national parks, but admittedly didn't have high expectations for this park. I was wrong, this place was really impressive and visitors MUST get out of their car to appreciate.

On a cold, windy day it was a great driving and photo experience. Make sure to go to the visitor Center/museum first. The context is essential here.

The Painted Desert/Petrified Forest is a photographer's dream - so many miles of scenic driving and several amazing places to not only snap but to experience. Who would ever think rock could be so interesting?

Sadly the bits of petrified wood had been so abused before it was saved it was almost like it was too little too late.

Combined this with Painted desert . A pleasant drive with stops for photos. Saw some wildlife as we drove through.

It's just astonishing what happened to this forest...and to think it was originally located 4 degrees north of the equator (millions of years ago, when Pangea was still intact). The "wood" looks in many cases like it could still burn if ignited. We wouldn't have missed this for the world.

If you like rocks and fossils, this is the place. Nice museum, and short trail among the petrified conifers. Take your camera.
