Quality plays have been put on since I started going and this is my third season. Staff and actors are friendly and they do great performances. There is a lot of talent in this area and they also encourage young people.

They have interesting plays that they put on here. The plays are with local young people and are well preformed.

Attended "Legally Blond" - a vibrant production with incredible energy. Attractive theatre in a park-like setting. Greeters worked hard to make everyone welcome in a great theatre lobby. Nice theater - good orchestra - vibrant production that sold out every show and demanded an extra week of productions. At times, the orchestra drowned out the dialogue.- I could not hear half of the dialogue. Overheard a man behind me tell his wife that he could not hear half the dialogue. Asked a teenager if he could hear, and he said that he could not hear half the dialogue.

My wife and I took friends to see "The Producers" in February. We were unfamiliar with the story, but had heard that it was good and had enjoyed other productions at the Camille. The acting and singing were indeed excellent! The characters were well-portrayed. However, we found the content of the play quite offensive at times and the costuming, probably meant to be a parody, very insulting. This kind of "art" may have appealed to the "sophisticated" 30 years ago, but t0 today's audience it seemed more like an attempt to shove homosexuality down our throats. We can do much better in choosing the vehicle by which to showcase the talent found here in the Rio Grande Valley! As it was, we were embarrassed and uncomfortable through significant portions of the show.

The Camille Playhouse never disappoints. Plays chosen for each season have something for everyone: romance, drama, mystery, intrigue or comedy. Great family musicals are always chosen just in time for the holidays and the talent of the community's youth showcased in the annual Youth theater.

Went to see final performance of IN THE HEIGHTS. I enjoyed myself even though it was not my type of musical. Started out with RAP, some of the words were in Spanish, which I don't know. That said, the actors put on an excellent performance.
Theater is small, open seating, I doubt if there is a bad seat in the house.

The Camille Playhouse has always been a fantastic turnout for us! The performances range from the classics to the more modern plays. We absolutely love to attend the comedic plays! We've always enjoyed the bar with an essential spread in the lounge. So load up on your snacks and refreshments and enjoy yourselves a quality performance!!!

This was my first visit to our community theater, and it was a delight. My daughter in law was visiting & I thought it a good opportunity to "sample" what our local talent had to offer.
It was a play I had never heard of, "Still Life with Iris"; the actors were all teenagers; not a mixture to instill confidence. I prepared to be somewhat bored. How surprised I was to hear such clear enunciation, and to see such good acting. I was soon caught up in the story and found the intermission to be an intrusion. I couldn't wait for it to be over.
The quality of performance was high for a small town community theater. We citizens of Brownsville are very fortunate.
Camille Playhouse's season runs from September through May and you can bet your boots I will buy a season ticket for the upcoming season!!

The plays are done with local talent. Sometimes they are very good and sometimes they lack better talent. I miss the opportunity for the off Broadway shows in bigger cities but I go to these to support local art and I do enjoy them. There are some very talented people in these shows and I think some of the shows travel here but aren't the big ones. I enjoy the theater and so I go.

Purchased season tickets for 2014-2015. I have to search to find out performances... I thought they would put me on their email list to keep me up to date, but no, they don't do that. And, they don't post in the community events of the regional newspaper, The Monitor. So it's easy to miss performances.
Willy Wonka was bad... Glad I didn't invite our out-of-town visitors to it.
They offer free wines at the bar, but it's horrible wines. Guess it's so the guests don't enjoy themselves too much, like a White Zin or Chablis would afford.
At the Wonka event, my season pass didn't scan, and the ticket taker didn't give out playbills. The minimum basics they couldn't provide.
At this rate, it's not worth it for me to purchase season tickets next year, and invite friends to join me.
Your mileage may vary.
