Only open from about 11 to 12:30 or 1. Reasonably priced. Thursday is prime rib for less than $10. But baked potatoes leave a lot to be desired. Get the mashed or another veg.

To the northeast of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building is the Church Office Building, a 28-story white high-rise constructed in the early 1970s. This is the headquarters building for the LDS Church and contains offices for several thousand individuals in a wide variety of departments. The only part of the Church Office Building you can visit (aside from the lobby, which contains a beautiful mural of Christ commissioning His Apostles to go into all the world and teach His gospel), is the 26th floor observation deck. Talk about a breathtaking view of Salt Lake City! From the open-air deck you can overlook the east, north and west sides of the City and get some amazing photographs. After 9/11, the Church Office Building became a secure building. Consequently, you will not be able to go up to the 26th floor on your own. As is the case in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, either a host or hostess must accompany you. Take advantage of their knowledge of the Salt Lake valley and its history. They can provide you with some fascinating information on the history of the City and its natural surroundings. Besides, it’s nicer to actually be told what it is you’re looking at instead of just having to guess. Again, these hosts and hostesses are Church Service Missionaries. They are not permitted to proselytize, but can answer most of the questions you might have about the LDS Church (except for the really deep doctrinal stuff; they’ll refer you back to the “Sister Missionaries” on Temple Square for those). The Church Office Building is only open on weekdays, on which days it opens at 9:00 A.M. Between April General Conference and October General Conference (in other words, during the summer months), you must arrive at the building by 4:45 in order to go to the 26th floor. Between October and April Conferences (i.e. the winter months), tours end a half hour earlier, so you must arrive no later than 4:15. Tours are tailored to fit your own time constraints and interest, but are generally about 20 to 30 minutes in length.

To get to the 26th floor Observation Deck, you need to participate in a free guided tour led by a volunteer Mormon member. You will first be given a brief history about its founder and shown a few pieces of artwork on the ground floor. Then you will be escorted onto the elevator and taken to the 26th floor.

We recently went as a family. We’re members of the church and I wouldn’t go here. They have missionaries that circle like vultures looking for non members. If you’re a member forget about them helping you or giving you directions. I also wouldn’t go if you’re a non member too because they are looking for you trying to convert you to our cult.

I tried to see as many of the buildings in Temple Square as I could and the world HQ office building was one of them. They give tours. The view from the 20 something story is just breathtaking.

If you happen to be visiting Temple Square on a weekday between the hours of 9am - 5pm, then it's definitely worth half an hour of your time to get a guided tour of the Church Office Building, the iconic skyscraper that serves as headquarters to the LDS Church. The bulk of the tour happens on the 26th floor observation deck - with good reason. On the observation deck you can get unparalleled views (and photos) of Salt Lake City, and the tour guides will point out some features of the landscape that you probably wouldn't notice or know about otherwise. The only way to visit the observation deck is via a guided tour, but it's short, and the tour guides are friendly, helpful, and somewhat flexible in terms of how long or short the tour is. So, my recommendation is to take advantage of the vantage point, and take a tour!

Take the tour with one of the staff to the roof top observation platforms. Very nice view of SLC. The guide, I had showed me many of the major sights, as well as a few POI in the surrounding area.
Well worth it, everybody was very friendly

Everyone had told us to be sure to have the Prime Rib lunch on Thursday in the Basement Cafeteria. We were so happy that we did. It cost $25.00 for the two of us including beverages and dessert! The selection of food in the Cafeteria was excellent many choices to choose from but he Prime Rib was a real treat. It was sliced nice and thick. I do not think that I could digest it if I were to have it for dinner but since it was an early lunch I thought no problem. Although I may not have had my normal focus in the Family History research library in the late afternoon. And then we did just have snacks for dinner to make up for the heavy lunch. I sure was great. Be sure to go on a Thursday for the Prime Rib!

The church office building as an amazing cafeteria and a fun ride in the elevator to one of the tallest buildings in Salt Lake. Walk out either side to see the beautiful mountain range or the other side to see the view of the entire valley !

The Church Office Building is the office building for the Latter Day Saints Church. It is 26 floors high. We visited it when we were in Salt Lake City.
