I would recommend this "attraction" highly for people who want to be harrassed by missionaries about the Mormon church. Because, apparently, that is the sole purpose of marketing this building to tourists. I innocently thought that the genealogy center was a resource I could use to research my ancestors. I was wrong-- the price to pay for using these computers was the companionship of a missionary who instead of listening to my actual requests reagarding my search wanted to talk about her church and why it "was ture". I thought that throwing up my arms and yelling, "Please leave me alone!" would be rude, so i finally just left. If I had been willing to convert to Mormonsim, I'm sure I would have enjoyed my visit much more.

Just for Mormon members, the Joseph Smith statue was gross and ugly. His church is no longer humble or nice. I was happy to leave and walk three blocks south for a cocktail to get over this experience.

We stayed at the Ellerbeck Mansion for two nights last week and had a very welcoming and comfortable stay. We went downtown to Temple Square and had dinner at one of the restaurants in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. What an impressive building. Apparently it was built about 100 years ago and the detail is well worth the visit. Just find a chair in the lobby and look at the ceiling. Then venture around the building as the Family History Services are located here. When you are ready, go to the top floor and take in the view. Day or night, both views are special. I recommend a stop.

We only walked in as we went to The Roof restaurant, but the first floor with stained glass ceiling and statue of Joseph Smith is impressive.

This beautiful old building is a must see when in Salt Lake City. Originally an ornate luxery hotel, now a part of the Temple Square complex. Staffed with friendly helpful people. There are 2 or 3 restaurants located in this building. The lobby and 10th floor are still in their original, long ago state. The 10th floor is an observatory floor and the views to the Tabernacle and Temple grounds is spectacular. Viewing to the east side of the building will give you a great view of more of the city and a panoramic view of the mountains to the south and east. Make time to visit this old, but beautiful and useful building.

Now the admin headquarters of the LDS this is a beautiful building which retains its grandeur as what was the best hotel in STC.
Oddly the cafe on the ground floor doesn't sell hot coffee (a rather random concession to the religious beliefs of the landlords).
The Mormons willingly give you a tour of the building. The highlight is to top floor with the views of the State Capitol, temple Square and downtown SLC. All free and no attempt at religious conversion.

You have to walk into the lobby of this former hotel, it has great history! Yes there are missionaries in there but they are not that pushy so don't let that stop you :)

I love to walk through here whenever I am downtown Salt Lake City. It has been lovingly restored and the interior decor is stunning, from the stained-glass ceiling to the detailed moldings, it is just beautiful Besides the lobby, there are beautiful rooms and restaurants upstairs as well. The restarants overlook Temple Square, which is lovely any time of the year.

A visit to Temple Square which included the Joseph Smith building was an enlightening experience. Our entire tour which also included the conference center and the taping of the Mormon Tabernacle choir Sunday show is a must see. The Latter Day Saints tour guides could not have been more gracious as they led us thru this gorgeous complex The Lion House, located next to the Temple Square, is a great place for a delicious home cooked meal at a reasonable price.

Looking into wedding reception here. Please let me know what the experience with the food was for you. Were their suggested numbers accurate?

The food was very good but the ambience is what sealed the deal for us. The staff are amazing and treat you like royalty. I would recommend this establishment over any other in the area.

Written 15 July 2015
