The Grand in Macon is a wonderfully old and posh opera house that has hosted just about every act imaginable over the years. The Christmas Season will bring individual artists while Broadway acts will roll thru most of next year. There's also not a bad seat in the house.

The Grand Opera House in Macon is a jewel of the theater. The acoustics are excellent and virtually every seat in the house is good. If you can get front row balcony, take it. The stage is fantastic and very large. Highly complicated productions are possible.

We've enjoyed several shows here and always have a great time. I do with there was a way to choose seats when buying tix online - being right up against the stage isn't so great for dance programs, but you just gotta roll the dice...

I'm so glad we have this theater. It is beautiful and there is not a bad seat in the house. It's a bit small and not as grand as the Fox in Atlanta, but it's just right for our little town. It's a huge treat for our young thespians and dancers when they get to be part of local productions.

We have attended numerous events at the Grand Opera House, including the Nutcracker, symphony performances, comedians, and solo and group singing acts. We have sat upstairs, downstairs and the balconies.
For solo artists such as comedians or singers the box seats are PERFECT. They are real chairs and you have plenty of room. There are 6 seats per box, so if your group is 3-4 people you will probably have it all to yourself.
For the balcony, it can get warm up high, so if you choose the balcony seats, get in the first few rows if you prefer to avoid the heat...sit higher up if you like it warmer.
In the orchestra, there is a row with a pole (see the seating chart). great seats are right next to the pole...they are more towards the middle, but you are still on the end!
if you want just 2 seats for you + one, on both sides of the top of center orchestra there are 2 seats by themselves...again, great seats and easy to exit during intermission (think bathroom lines).
Overall, we love this place. It truly is a wonderful bit of history in Macon and we are so excited to have heard of the upcoming renovations. If you can...do support this treasure.

I was a little hesitant going to the opera on Macon, but this is a grand old building, and the
experience was divine. The inner area has been redone, and it is such a step back in
time. It 's beuatiful. We saw Les Miserable there, and the company was fantastic.
Obviously , there are no New York set changes here, but the the theatre is small, and
the atmosphere is very intense.
Get yourself some tickets, I would imagine any show you see would be great.
I loved it, and can't wait to go back :)

Attendent let us watch last 10 minutes of a musical from rear corner, after we said we just wanted to peak inside auditorium. Great sound.

This theater has been beautifully restored to now showcase many different kinds of entertainment. I grew up in Macon and it was a movie theater then. Parking is free and close. A nice alternative to the Fox in Atlanta.

It is a beautiful historical opera house. A must see when you are in Macon. Ask about the Houdini trap door!

Need a good place to stay near the theater!! Any recommendations?

Are you speaking of the Grand Opera House? If so, the Macon Marriott City Center is probably the closest at a little over a half mile from the GOH.

Any chance of a tour or a peek inside the week of 8/25-8/30?
Written 27 July 2016
Suggest you call the box office (478-301-5470). I know they conduct group tours. They can tell you if there is any possibility for you on that date.
Written 28 July 2016
I will be passing through in June, about the 7th, and would love to see the inside but if there is no scheduled events, is this possible.??
Written 24 May 2016
I'm not certain but I believe the answer is no. They may do group tours but not individual ones as it is a working theater and not a tourist attraction per say. Best bet is to call the box office and ask if they open it for tours at any time.

I know that center seats are preferable but has anyone sat on Row A Orchestra Left or Right? Sometimes the first row is difficult to see from in some venues.
Written 4 November 2015
I personally have never sat in those seats, but I've never heard anyone complain about sightlines, with the exception of the boxes.

Are there any "bad" seats at the Grand Opera House in Macon, GA other than those with obstructed views?
Written 5 September 2015
Any center area seats lower level or balcony are great views. The closer to the center the better.
