It was a great hike in to see the glacier face but was disappointing to see how fast it has been melting in the last several years. The colours on the glacier face were truly amazing. The walk in was fairly easy and had spectacular...More

Loved our visit to the glacier, it's a good walk with plenty to take in along the way such as the waterfalls and looking for gold in the stream. Must have been some sight before the rapid erosion took it so far up the valley...More

We had visited Fox Glacier the day before and although Franz Josef is a longer walk it is better to see. I also think the walk is easier. Franz Josef Glacier has the blue ice that I had imagined a glacier to have. You are...More

Can not stress enough the need to be prepared for weather changes. When we started it was hot and sunny, then a down pour of rain which saw a lot of unprepared people turn back before the waterfalls (Which are worth the walk on their...More

We had a geologist conduct a guided walk for the first part of the hike. Her knowledge was indispensable in understanding how the glaciers formed and some of the current issues related to the glaciers. She was funny and was able to answer all questions...More

It is a wonderful walk to the glacier. Perfect scene and views. We unfortunately we didn´t have enough time to walk right up, but as far as we have seen a beautiful place to relax and walk.

We climbed up to the lookout, really good view. Worth the short sharp climb. I hadn't visited in over 40 years and to mind it was a stark reality of climate change

Definitely worth seeing. Out of this world experience. Can get a little cold, so wear layers and comfortable shoes. A guide can be useful to understand the history of the place,.

We were there in Feb 2017 and in spite of the fluctuating weather and ill equipped clothing made it to the viewing area of the glacier. The walk is excellent. The path is along a greyish stream and there are a few big waterfalls as...More

It depends on what you mean by “explore”. We drove our rental car to the car park and hiked on the well marked pathways over the moraines to the observation point overlooking the face of the Glacier. It was sufficient for... More
