There is parking nearby and a public toilet. Looks like its carved from rock and bigger than I thought. There were a few shops nearby too.

I love a photo with a statue, and this is a great statue to have a photo with. Easily found on the corner of two roads at the petrol station, this friendly sheep deserves a a cuddle and a pat.

Not huge, but nicely carved.

In a world with not many sheep statues this one really stands out and has to be up there as one of the best. 👍 makes for a great photo opportunity if nothing else

Relaxing and upmarket, this cafe never disappoints. You can sit relaxed on the sofas, or out in the sun. Beautiful food and a gift shop of quality.

A great photo spot. Sort of a "tradition" with our tramping and adventuring friends. The statue itself is fun, however some could describe it as "ugly". Great milestone though.

Blink & you'll miss it if driving through. Plenty of parking if you wish to get out & pat it though!

Pretty cool & well constructed monument/sign to see as you drive into Omarama. Kept well up to scratch!

The Omarama Merinos is an interesting statue of a large sheep situated alongside State Highway 8 in the town of Omarama, N.Z. This is the work of Bill Adams and erected here in 1994 as a tribute to the role of Merino sheep which have served as a major form of industry in the region since the mid 19th-century.

You will find the statue in front of the petrol station at the State Highway 8 and Chain Hill Highway. There are a few carpark spots at the station if you want to get out and see the statue here. Obviously, there are a handful of places nearby to purchase clothing items made from Merino sheep wool sourced from the local area.
