This was just a short drive from Tairua town and offered beautiful 360 degree views. Having come from Auckland, mount paku gave us a taster of what NZ was really all about! It only took us about 10minutes to walk up to the peak, though maybe this was because my husband was so excited to get to the top! It... More

Great views at the top with a 360 panorama of the beach and ocean below. The walk is short, but steep. It took us less than 10-mins to walk up from the car park.

Short, easy walk up to the summit from the carpark. I liked the signs with info about the area and the view from the summit was amazing. I found it as beautiful as Mount Maunganui, but it was a lot easier to get to the summit and it was a lot less touristy. Definitely something you should visit!

We stayed in our camper van on Mary Beach Reserve facing this mount. It was very impressive to see it across the estuary and walk over to it when the tide was out. monumental.

Easy hike in the morning in a densely forested trail. The views from the top were outstanding and there was nobody else there. Great place for a sunrise!

The summit is reached by driving (or walking) up Paku Road, then joining the signposted path. The walk is a little steep in places with unmade walkways and a little scramble up rock steps, but you are rewarded with a 360° panorama of the Tairua area. Well worth the effort!

it's a steady climb up Mount Paku, involving a lot of steep slopes, steps and some scrabbling up rockier 'steps' to get to the top, but the views from the top are excellent! Walk back down and park your feet in the sea for a refreshing foot spa.

If you don't want to walk up from sea level, you can drive most of the way then walk up the track. Great views from the top make the steep but short track worth it. I had a bad knee (torn meniscus) when I scrambled up but it was do-able.

Steep but short walk. The views are amazing, so thoroughly recommend. The walk is rather short (10 min).

We drove as far as possible up Mt Paku and walked the remaining 10 minutes to the summit. Views on the ascent and at the very top were fabulous. Well worth a visit. Note the steps at the very end of the ascent are basically the stones that form the top of the mountain and are a little more challenging... More
