Cathedral Cove is a place that I had not heard of before reading up on New Zealand before my trip. But it was very definitely a highlight of that trip. The 30min walk to the Cove from the parking lot is great - and the Cove's massive arch across the beach is impressive. And at one end of the cove... More

Very crowded, even after the stairs down have supposedly been washed out by the heavy rain the past few days. The walk to the cove is relatively long (45min one way), but manageable - came across people with strollers as well. Very lovely views once you get there. Can possibly skip the gemstone bay short hike, nothing much.

This is a must-see and do walk, but be prepared: it takes longer than you think. It is well worth the walk. The result, seeing Cathedral Cove is spectacular. Not suitable for prams, or people with walking difficulties as the last bit is stairs, without a handrail. Hold on to your small children also!

This takes a bit of getting to, a long walk and a fight for parking but when you get there its fantastic. Sit and relax for the day, take photos, swim or just walk along it you can do it all. The only downside is that it is a huge attraction so was very busy with school tours the day... More

Go to Lonely Bay instead, you will probably have the place to yourself. It could be described as mini Cathedral Cove.

My bestie put this on our to do list on our recent visit to Auckland. An easy day trip out of the city. About 2.5hrs drive.. Although we took the more scenic route and went around the entire Coromandel Peninsula which is an amazing journey itself. We parked the car (complete luck of the draw in getting one) and were... The walk to the cove itself is a nice walk and definitely worth it - cathedral cove is beautiful although it can get very busy. The other coves are worth a look too. Parking there is a nightmare, so be willing to pay for parking on a drive, park and ride or a walk up a steep hill to the... More

Cathedral Cove is so beautiful and definitely worth the hike to get there. We went on a day when they had received more rain than usual and it just added to the beauty of the place as there was a waterfall flowing right over the top of the rocks down onto the beach. We didn't let the weather deter us... More

Beautiful, worth the walk. Make sure you go at low tide and early as parking runs out quickly. Paid parking back down the hill on residents front yards. Get off the main track and check out the other small bays, well worth the detour.

We recently visited Cathedral Cove - we weren't able to park in the car park as this was full but we managed to park in one of the houses on the way up offering car parking spaces, this just meant we didn't have to walk all the way up the hill to get to the start of the walk. The... More
