Due to poor weather all boat trips to Cathedral Cove were cancelled on the day of our visit. Undeterred we took the path from the car park at Hahei. It is an hour and a half round trip along a well maintained path. Needless to say it is an up and down route but average fitness will suffice. You also... More

Unfortunately, due to high crowd levels (we visited in March), we didn't get to see Cathedral Cove. I'm sure it is beautiful and worth the walk, but we couldn't get parked in the small car park at the top of the road after circling several times and the road leading up to the top is a no parking zone (quite... A beautiful walk that was totally worth the hike. We made the trip in just over 30 minutes one way with our two teenage sons and my 76 year old mother. Even with a few breaks along the way the walk wasn't too difficult. The trail is well maintained and the views are tremendous. Make sure you go around low... More

This is a beautiful location - stunning views, soft sand beaches, and surprisingly not mobbed. Parking is rough at the top - it's a small lot, but there are toilet facilities. The hike down to the cove, though, is rigorous. I didn't make it all the way down - it's about a 45 minute walk down, and who knows how... More

After taking my time on the PCH driving around the Coromandel pennisula, I arrived at Cathedral cove later in the afternoon. Parking lot was still quite full.. I decided to take the longer walk/hike to the cove.. Well worth the effort to get there!! Nice beach and many interesting stone formations in the water. I also suggest taking some of... More

Nature walk at its finest with safe paths that have been paved and many little vistas or viewpoints to stop and enjoy or have a quick drink of water. We went on an extremely rainy day but the walk was still worth it and once we got to the beach we were so happy that we went! Honestly had some... More

As a photographer this was perfect. We timed our visit for sunset, and I couldn't have been happier. There is plenty of parking here, just plan on a bit of a hike in. We were there off season so didn't have to worry about many tourists, but it was a beautiful day and there were plenty of people there.

The car park is only small and fills quickly very early in the morning. You can walk along a track from Hahei beach which takes about 40 minutes. It's steep in parts but a lovely walk. You then walk about another 30/45 minutes passing a couple of other coves. All coves have very steep descents but the rewards are well... More

Cathedral cove is a beautiful place for a short and easy 40min walk to the actual spot. There's plenty of parking spots and freedom overnight camping available, which is highly recommendable as being there early in the morning helps avoiding crowds!

Cathedral Cove and the walk to it are beautiful. The beach area is fantastic. The walk is variously described as 40-45 mins but at a good clip you'll do it in 35 mins or maybe a bit quicker. Don't be put off if it's raining - it rained most of the time and didn't detract from the experience at all.
