If you're into history and old photos, don't miss it.
The church is nice, but the upstairs photo gallery is outstanding. Over 500 photos taken between the 1850s and 1951. They show aspects of life in Natchez. They come from a l00 year line of photographers with a shop in Natchez. They never threw away their negatives. These have been painstakingly restored and are the gallery. Each has its caption telling where and when. No charge.

    Great Historical Photos
Natchez in Historical Photographs is one of the best things to see in Natchez, and it is FREE! It is a great collection of photos from the 1870's until the early 1900's. There are a lot of old photos of the citizens of Natchez which for visitors shows the dress of the period. There are photos of the buildings including some of the homes now open for tours. What I found the most interesting was the early day business photos and all the photos of the river boats.

More than a church- History is pictures, a museum.
This church was recommended for their picture gallery. Okay I’ll check it out. This is more than a gallery, it’s a museum of pictures of Natchez and the people of Natchez. You cannot take pictures of the pictures but so many stood out to me. It is room after room after room of pictures. It’s more like a museum above a church. Loved the descriptions of the pictures- names, dates, and events of the time. You could spend hours looking at each of them. Parking is free on the street. No cost to see the exhibit.

Besides being another lovely architectural specimen, First Presbyterian hosts the most amazing and comprehensive display of civil war era, pre and post war, photography I’ve ever seen in one place...Literally, there is room after room of amazing pictures providing a detailed glimpse into Natchez culture and society...if you think you know all about the South, I think you might learn something new from the story these pictures tell. But keep in mind, Natchez is and was a very unique place, not the norm of southern society. This place is not to be missed.

Didn’t see these incredible photos coming when we stopped to view the church interior! Amazing b&w photos of early Natchez. From portraits of citizens to local architecture, street scenes to river scapes, floods to river cruises, everything’s documented. If you’re a fan of period photography, don’t miss this free exhibit!

Our party of 5 seniors (2 American, 3 British) first spotted this church on a carriage tour of Natchez upon arrival in town recently. The church was lovely from the outside, and we decided to go back to visit the next day. Were we ever glad we did! We entered via the State Street entrance, and were greeted by a very friendly church member who gave us a tour. It was just picture-perfect inside, with doors on the pews which is unusual for the south. Afterwards we discovered the treasure trove of Natchez photographs displayed in several rooms upstairs in the gallery. Wow! We enjoyed it all so much that we spent 3 hours here instead of the planned 1 hour. An added bonus was a band rehearsal going on at the same time, as this day was the start of the annual Music Festival in town. Make time for this stop - you won't be disappointed.

This must be a best kept secret of Natchez if you are into history. This collection of photos (people, places, events) really tells a great story of Natchez from the perspective of a gifted photographer. In this day of digital photos, selfies, and print-at-your-computer photography, you get a real sense of what it took to photograph and then produce the printed image. This display wanders over multiple rooms in the church; how wonderful of them to allow the public to come in and wander through this history!

Savor a real treat - the Stratton Chapel Gallery within the First Presbyterian Church. After paying respects in the sanctuary, take the stairs to an exceptional world-class museum of 500 photographs which capture daily life in Natchez. This is by far an amazing treasure of history and art combined.

This lovely church has a side entrance that houses a most unusual photo collection of Natchez. It is upstairs and wraps around many rooms. If you like history, this is a gem of a place you don't want to miss!

Many beautiful photos with text describing the photos and their significance... all telling the story of Natchez and its changes through the 100 years of photos. FYI -- enter through the State Street door.
