Fun place to visit and explore just north of San Francisco. Near trails and interesting adventurers along the path. Also, if you're a movie buff, pull enjoy the fact that a scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was filmed here! The Nazi bike...More

Got to it due to missing the turnoff to Muir Woods NP. You have to drive a very curvy road to get to it. If you have driven "The Road to Hana" in Hawaii, you will enjoy it. Mostly a hiking park. Unfortunately we were...More

Lots of beautiful hikes to do. Can't really go wrong. Don't miss driving on Ridgecrest Road. It's one of the most beautiful drives in the country as it snakes over the hilltop overlooking Stinson Beach and Bolinas. Not very long either. Dogs are allowed in...More

Do not miss it after a rain when the skies have been scrubbed clean. You can see so much of the beautiful Bay Area and Northern California

Mt. Tam is just north of the Golden Gate bridge, and is my backyard. Tons of trails, lots of different environments from chapparal to redwoods. Lots of fireroads for mountain biking on too.

Mount Tam is such a beautiful park. There are so many trails with such great views make sure to hike a couple. If you're not into hiking it's still a beautiful park to drive through with many scenic vistas of the surrounding area.

We really enjoyed our sunny hours at Mt Tam State Park. We could see that the coast and low areas were fogged in, so it was great to stay high and be in the sun. We explored three wheelchair accessible trails. The Verna Dunshee trail...More

My husband and I took the 2 boys (ages 4 and 9) hiking to the top to look at the bay views. The walk was very rocky but both kids loved it. The area was amazing and it was a clear day. Caution when driving...More

I love hiking the trails at Mt Tamps! You can walk the trails for hours and never repeat a trail. The views from the trails are so beautiful. We bring lunch and have a picnic overlooking San Francisco in the distance.

Lot's of well marked trails for all levels. Bring your camera for vistas of Bay Area, especially at or near the top. Level trail around East Peak can be driven to. Come on weekdays. Weekend traffic is terrible.

Hi Curt, great photos! Do you remember where you got these amazing vistas? Was it on the road to Bolinas you mentioned?

No, it was on the Cataract Trail. The road to Bolinas is also very scenic, and I encourage exploring that too. I was fortunate to go at a time when we were having record rainfall.
Here is my question: If you only had time to visit one, Muir Woods or Mt. Tam. which would you choose? Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Sorry, I meant if I was coming all the way from Minnesota, I would make time for both.

Hi Guys, I want to park at the visitor center in the early morning so that I can catch the sunrise from the East peak. Can I access the Visitor center parking lot before the center opens as long as I have cash? Just want to ensure that I can park there early. Thank you

Or you could drive up to the "back end" by the Mountain View Inn and park for free. Great sunrises from there as well.
