If you don't mind a little hiking and want to avoid the crowded parking lot and/or shuttle bus, drive up to Panoramic Highway, and park around the Rock Springs Ranger Station (it's on google maps). There's a parking lot there, just down the road from...More

If going to San Francisco you must take a trip across the golden gate bridge to see these amazing, colossal, ancient trees. It's only a 12 mile drive to get up close to the redwoods. The main trail is easy to walk an navigate and...More

The park offers easy walking trails as well as more challenging hikes. We had an infant with us and it was the perfect activity to do as it's cool enough in the woods without the sun shining through, and it's very peaceful. The trees are...More

This is a great place to see the Redwoods. It feels like a magical forest and the trees and grounds are beautiful. This is not a big park and the walkways are level and easy to walk. Definitely worth a visit!

Decided to take the scenic route to Napa from San Fran. It was absolutely the right decision. Muir Woods is breathtaking, nature creates a lot of beauty! This drive has several stops to get out of car and soak in the forest! I cannot recommend...More

We loved loved loved Muir Woods! My husband and I took an Uber there from SF and it cost us about $28.00. Unfortunately we did not have cell reception and we could not get an Uber back. We ended up paying a lot of money...More

Very cool place and will return but I think it might het very busy there on weekends because there very little parking but many spots for buses. Someone did it right by not letting people build there. Good time!

Somehow we missed the crowds that others complain about and had a leisurely stroll through the forest and enjoyed the redwoods and plants in the area, yep were tourists.

We are traveling to Sonoma in August and thought we could go here on the ride up from the San Francisco Airport but we wouldn't get there until about noon. Would we possibly not be able to park at that time? I keep reading to go early but that won't be possible for us.

If you are there on a weekend, you might have to park on the road --- a long way from the entrance. They also have a shuttle ---look into that alternative.

Does anyone know if the shuttle is running? Or if not if I took the 61 bus which dropped me off at Panoramic Highway / Bayview Drive would it be possible / safe to walk to the entrance of the woods?

Do you need to wear hiking shoes? I've read that the woods can be very damp. Am I completely crazy to wear adidas Stan smiths? Thank you!

Unless you plan to explore the trails past the monument, a good pair of walking shoes will be fine. The actual monument has a walking deck/platform that takes you around, so even if the rains made the woods damp and muddy... More
