Have been wanting to go for some time, so decided now or never. We took a tour bus to go there, so didn't have to worry about admission or parking. It is a beautiful area, very impressive to see and learn of the history.

I'll admit that I was anticipating a tourist trap, but this was well-done and inspiring. Take the Presidential Trail to wind your way around the site and view the sculptor's studio-it will add to your visit. Parking is convenient and the site has handy amenities.

A must see if you are in South Dakota. When we got there the fog completely covered Mt. Rushmore. We watched the really neat film about Mt. Rushmore while waiting. It took about 2 hours for the fog to completely lift & then we saw...More

It's surreal to see this iconic American landmark in person! I highly recommend making the sojourn. There are fun things to do. I highly recommend the Crazy Horse Memorial as well. It's a beautiful part of the country that too few people have visited!

We have all seen pictures of Mt Rushmore, but they just don't do it justice. It is a must see if you are touring the national parks. There is a nice trail that takes you to the base and has many scenic points to get...More

Amazing to see in person and a must see at least once. The presidents trail was great too and if you take it clockwise (starting on the left) you can come right under the faces with a fairly short and flat walk (ok for wheelchairs)...More

We went after 2 inches of snow the night before. Got their early, not crowded since it was before Memorial Day. It will always stay in your memory. The museum explained how it was sculpted and no workers died. Enjoy this wonder.

We had a very nice visit to this park. A surprising aspect of our journey was the shifting perspectives of the sculpture as we traveled up the presidential trail. The weather and the length of time required to see the park and gift shop were...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
This might be a horrible question but I was curious if you could see Mt. Rushmore from the road. I would really like to stop but we have our dogs with us and will just be passing through on a time crunch so I don't want to pay to see it if I'm literally only going to look and then heading out on our way home. Can anyone help?

The road out of Keystone, SD to the monument does provide a view of the monument. You will want to turn around after seeing the monument if you do not want to pay for the parking.
Is there a central place to stay and see Rushmore and Custer and???

We found Hill City to be the most centrally located to Rushmore, Custer, Needles Highway, Iron Mt. Crazy Horse. Plus the y have great restaurants.

It looks like the Visitor/Information Center for Mt. Rushmore closes at 5pm. If we arrive after that, will we be missing out on activities and/or helpful information?

The visitor centre is very interesting with a cinema which gives an informative history of the monument.
