With so much of the trail under construction, you miss out on a good chunk of the experience, including the sculptors studio, with the scale models used in the project. We highly recommend the audio tour. We learned so much. People around us were asking...More

This walk gets you closer to the monument. It is under construction and closed half way. I would still go as far as you can. There are also stops to read about each President.

Even though it was closed at the half way point my kids liked getting up close and seeing the different view of the Presidents. It’s an easy walk and worth 15 minutes if you have time.

This was a nice trail that offers a view at the base of the Presidents. Unfortunately part of the trail was closed when we were there but it was still worth the short hike. Definitely a must do while visiting Mount Rushmore.

Loved this trail for a morning hike as it was paved and not very steep. Also provided some unique views!

If you want to get as close as possible to the carvings at Mount Rushmore, take the path on the left just before the amphitheater. There is a paved trail that takes you right up to the base of the carvings, and it’s quite impressive....More

I would highly recommend taking the hike for a very different and close-up view of the Presidents. Unfortunately when we were there in July, about half the trail was closed due to reconstruction of one of the sites.

part of the trail is closed for repairs, but the part that is open is a nice short walk that gives you great views of the mountain. Do take this short walk, it's worth it.

There is NO cost to walk the trail. There is a fee to park. The most recent information on the nps.gov site says it is $10 per vehicle; prices may vary depending on vehicle size. Lower prices apply to senior citizens.

Agreed. You can go quite a ways until You encounter stairs. It’s a lovely stroll even if you can’t complete the loop.
