Winner of the 2015 Arizona Governor's Heritage Preservation Honor Award....

Winner of the 2015 Arizona Governor's Heritage Preservation Honor Award. Fort Verde is one of the best preserved examples of an Indian Wars period fort in Arizona. This original Military Headquarters is now a museum which contains artifacts, photos, videos, and interpretive exhibits focused on the history and lives of those who lived and served at Fort Verde: soldiers, Indian Scouts, settlers, doctors, and Native Americans. Three of the original homes along Officer's Row are still remaining and furnished with period artifacts.

The fort and museum are interesting and educational anytime one wants to visit. We took a Girl Scout troop for an event during Black History Month commemorating the Buffalo Soldiers, some of whom were stationed at the fort. The re-enactors (surgeon, Buffalo Soldiers, seamstress) were knowledgeable and patient with kids. Then we went into the museum and kids enjoyed dressing... More

Our four kids really enjoyed this place, and there was a lot of historical information for the adults as well. The two rangers, Sheila and Bob, were very knowledgeable and eager to help us get a lot out of our visit. There was quite a bit for the kids to do, between trying on the period costumes and competing the... More

So fortunate to be able to listen to Ranger Bob tell stories about being surgeon's assistant in the late 1800s. Fascinating! Museam quite interesting account of officers, enlisted, and Indian Scouts. There are also recreations of the officer's housing during the time of the fort. Adults $7. Worth the trip.

Stopped here on our way through Camp Verde with the kids. Kids had lots of fun looking around the grounds. The staff was engaging and knowledgeable. They even dressed the kids up in soldier uniforms and had them help take down the American Flag. Lots to learn and the exhibits are interesting.

I stopped at Fort Verde with my Sister-in-law and my nieces and nephew (ages 2-9 years old). We enjoyed learning the history of the area, and the kids had a great time trying on period costumes. The 7 and 9 year old were excited to be sworn in as junior park rangers. I would recommend a stop at Fort Verde... More

Fort Verde is part of US history, many people do not know how the Indian Wars were fought or why. The museum at the Fort explains this exceedingly well. The Park Ranger, Sheila was fantastic and very knowledgeable.

This is a nice little piece of history. Doesn't offer much, very short visit. It does offer a lot of very scenic views.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Fort Verde! Our prearranged tour was led by volunteer Bob Erb, who was dressed in a French-inspired US Army uniform of the 1870s. His detailed descriptions of the origins of the Fort, the Indian wars, medical practices of the time (how to saw off a limb is not for the faint-of-heart), and tour of... More

This is a great place to take family and learn about the history of the surrounding area of Camp Verde. I was really impressed with the staged exhibits and the condition of the property. Will go back and visit for sure!

Was really glad that we took the time to go visit this site. The park ranger was amazing and took time to give us a history of the complex which made our visit even more memorable. The buildings are interesting and the site is different than any we have visited in the past. Definitely worth a stop.
