Wow, we were so impressed. I have been to Galicia now 3 times and this amazing Roman fortified city ruins and museum is just 15 minutes from Castro de Rei or about 40 minutes from Lugo and literally 600 metres from the main road north. This is the best kept secret and is free to visit the ruins and the grotto. There is a small museum on site as well. Incredible.

The Castro de Viladonga is situated some 20 kms to the North East of Lugo on the main road to Viladonga. At the free site you can view a small museum with finds from the site, reconstructions and an informative introductory video. Outside you progress through the impressive earthworks onto the top of the hill and there you see the remains of dwellings, combining those of traditional circular design and rectangular "Roman" dwellings. There is considerable archaeological work continuing, laying bare the defences of the castro as well as some of the features situated outside the walls including the place where mieral resources were mined for the use of the castro.

The castro is big and the museum is good. It has good places for to take pictures. If you do not like the archeology, probably the place could be result boring

Beautiful place with a great museum. Do not miss it if you are in the area with fantastic views. There is more work plan in the future but enough than already.

A critically important visit for those interested in archeology and history of Spain.
The Castro has a dominating position offering splendid views that underscore its strategic defensive and trading position
The site is immaculately kept and sympathetically restored - children and adult can spend time fantasising on life 2000 years ago .....

Up on a hill, with great views in all directions, clearly a strategic choice for this location.
Fantastic view on the pre-history, with a nice little museum giving insights to the past.
