The mountain road twists and turns and at every bend a different view of the mountains and the different coloured trees from bright yellow through to green and spectacular reds. The white houses in the small villages along the way provide a typical Spanish scene which contrast magnificiently with the surrounding colours. A word of advice though, one or two... More

Great day trip from Granada. Spectacular views and culture and history information was excellent. Amazing villages of white houses clinging to cliff faces and water from the mountains is outstanding. Highlight was a visit to a ham curing factory......a must do experience. The driver was excellent (important for the back roads) and the tour guide was outstanding with excellent English.... More

An abundance of beautiful walks in a lovely unspoilt, reasonably quiet region of Spain. Walks can be found on various websites. It gets hot (we went in June) so remember plenty of water, though every village seems to have plenty of free springs to top up water bottles, sometimes a choice of EU approved water (with chemicals) or locally preffered... I traveled to Sierra Nevada with some friends from a hostel in Granada. For us it was a matter of catching a bus and then walking the rest. We went in the peak of summer, so take lots of water to drink. Litres of water. I'm not kidding - it averaged 48 Celcius (118 Farenheit) and heatstroke and dehydration are... More

The Alpujarra region of Spain is the most breath taking place I have seen. The mountains the steep sided gorges and pretty villages clinging to the hillsides cannot really be captured by a camera. Take the mountain bus from Capileira ( book in advance) through the National Park to the foothills of Mulhacen the highest mountain on the iberian Peninsula.... More

I had read about the beauty of the white villages and was looking forward to seeing them. I was not disappointed. The white buildings hugged the hillside throughout the area and capped chimneys rose from the structures. If I had not been with a tour, I would have stayed a few nights I La Alpujarra.

As it is very close to Granada we have decided to spend one day trip exploring las alpujarras and it was our best decision. We had a rented car which made everything much easier. Our first stop point was Lanjaron, where we visited the moorish castle and had amazing views, and there we decided to have lunch, and ate the... More

Worth the drive. We spent most of a day walking around these beautiful unspoiled villages shopping and eating. You definitely feel as if you have stepped back in time. Great leather and jewelry (local) in Pampaneira. We also had a great lunch there. Highly recommended.
