About
Enter the iconic blue doors of Atlanta's Swan House and discover a world of culture, commerce, quality, and comfort. Constructed in 1928 at the end of the Jazz Age, the house missed the Depression by mere months. Swan House was the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Emily Inman. They built the house for entertaining – we hope you enjoy it, too!

My mother and I went to the swan house on Saturday and had a great time. We had been before, but had never received a tour with a docent. Our guide was Jack his expertise was astonishing. It was so impressive. He knew so many facts not only pertaining to the house, but also the people that lived and worked there and the objects that were in it. He mastered any question that was thrown at him. His enthusiasm for the subject matter shown through and really brightened our experience. If you’re in the area, I highly suggest coming here and having a tour with Jack.

Located inside the Atlanta History Center, it is a beautiful house to see. I went there early morning when the center opened and left around noon. By noon on Saturday area got busy. Recommend coming in early and enjoying the property without the crowd.

The Swan house itself is a beautiful home showing the opulence of the rich as this was a downside home for the family who had owned it. But the grounds seemed to have falling behind in the upkeeps.

Plenty of opportunities to learn about American history, beautiful gardens and walking opportunities, Staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable. We asked plenty of questions and they gave us a lot of insights about the history of the house, the owners and the interior.
The only strange thing is that you are allowed to take picture with your phone but nit with a camera, not even for personal and non-commercial purposes.

A beautiful house and fantastic grounds, I am a big Hunger Games fan so found it fascinating to see the fountain and stairs used for the set. I am also a big fan of old houses. The foyer and staircase are jaw-dropping and the butler's pantry and kitchen give you a greater understanding of what the servants at the time had to contend with.

This is the house of the original owner of the land that the Atlanta History Center sits on.
The house has a really neat history behind it which a host will tell you about when you enter the home. You are allowed to walk through the whole house, and it is filled with the original furniture, kitchen appliances, dishes, etc.
No matter how many times you visit you will always see something new here.
Highly recommend visiting. Military and veterans admission is free.

Swan House was beautiful and worth visiting. An added bonus for our teenage children was that is was used in the filming of Hunger Games.
I would however like to mention the following:
We paid for a family membership to Atlanta Botanical Gardens on our first day, and their website mentioned that our membership has reciprocal benefits at the Atlanta History Center which is where Swan House is located. When we arrived at Atlanta History Center we were informed our family membership was not valid there. After paying $115 or something to visit the gardens for an hour, we had to pay another $100 to attend the History center. This was blatant false advertising, I even showed the web page to the clerk at the History Center and she shrugged and said it wasn’t true and if it were, people could pay for one and not the other. I couldn’t believe it. It was embarrassing and also infuriating. I’m not sure who is to blame, the Botanical Gardens or that clerk, but they need to get their act together regarding this. I can’t believe people do not complain on a daily basis.

The history museum is very interesting but takes time. The Swan House is also superb. Make time for the cafeteria lunch in the history museum the food is delicious but gets very busy around lunch time - go early to eat we did!

We're visiting Savannah/Atlanta this summer, and are interested in the beautiful homes there. I'm wondering whether it is better to see them each separately, or to do one of the package home tours that includes multiple properties? Thanks!

We did them on our own. Your visit to the Atlanta History Center ($16.50 last year/ Mitchell House admission is also included) will take several hours. There is much to see. We spent around five and a half hours and that included having lunch at the Swan Coach House, which is a MUST.
History buffs should make the Atlanta History Center their first stop. The center’s collections of photographs, maps, books, newspaper clippings, and decorative arts tell the history of Georgia, Atlanta, and the Southeast. In fact, the center has one of the largest collections of Civil War artifacts in the world. The Center itself is surrounded by 32 acres (13 hectares) of woodlands, including walking trails and five gardens.
Inside the Atlanta History Museum, hands-on discovery areas, displays, and photographs trace Atlanta’s history. Part of this permanent exhibit includes a fire engine used in Atlanta’s great fire of 1917 and a rare 1920 Hanson Six touring car. Another exhibit, the “Shaping Traditions: Folk Arts in a Changing South” shows the development and attributes of Southern folk art. It includes both traditional and modern forms ranging from clothing and food to singing and storytelling.
Also on the grounds of the Atlanta History Center are two must see historic homes. The Swan House, an immaculately restored 1928 house/museum, is filled with eclectic furnishings, decorative arts, and a swan emblem in every room. The Tullie Smith Farm, an antebellum mansion, evokes what life was like in Georgia in the mid-19th century.
History Center: 10am to 5:30pm Sundays: 12pm to 5:30pm
Swan House: 11am to 4pm Sundays: 1pm to 4pm
Smith Family Farm 11am to 4pm Sundays: 1pm to 4pm
Wood Family Cabin: 11am to 4pm Sundays: 1pm to 4pm
FREE PARKING Easy to get to.
Margaret Mitchell House and Museum
990 Peachtree Street NE
Hours: 10am to 5:30pm Sundays: 12pm to 5:30pm
Cost: Same ticket you used for Atlanta History Center
Parking: Adjacent to the home, there is a free lot with limited parking spaces available. There is also a row of metered spaces within the same block. And just one block over, there is a paid parking deck
You won't spend more than 90 minutes here. It's not a mansion, but rather a small apartment building . She lived on the ground floor for 1925- 32. The other apartments have been converted into a small museum with photos and memorabilia from the movie. Out in the yard there a very small one room house that has a few of the things that were used in the movie.
We started the day by having breakfast at Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles 529 Peachtree Street, NE Tel; 404-874-9393 We parked the car in the lot that is right next to it and left it there all day.
Afterwards we walked for ten minutes or less to the Mitchell House. Once we were done with the Mitchell House we walked for about 15 minutes to High Museum of Art 1280 Peachtree Street NE
Hours: Tuesday-Thursday, Saturday: 10am to 5pm Friday: 10am to 9pm Sunday:12pm to 5pm Closed on Mondays
The High is the leading art museum in the Southeastern U.S. With more than 15,000 works of art in its permanent collection, the High has an extensive anthology of 19th- and 20th-century American and decorative art; significant holdings of European paintings; a growing collection of African American art; and burgeoning collections of modern and contemporary art, photography, folk art and African art. The High is also dedicated to supporting and collecting works by Southern artists.
ALL THREE PLACES ARE ON PEACHTREE STREET

No it is included in the price of admission for the Atlanta History Center which is wonderful. Maybe I'm a bit biased being that I am originally from Atlanta. Still it is a great place but if you go to the History Center, please allow yourself several hours. To take it all in you will need it. Also if you happen to be a member of a botanical garden (or any garden) that is a member of the American Horticultural Society, you can get in free. They have a reciprocal agreement with other participating gardens. I am a member so yes I got in free. Hope this has been helpful

For the Capitol Tour...how long does it last? Also can you come before hand and see the grounds/house without buying an additional admission ticket?

Sorry for the delay in answering....I was there as part of a guided tour. Allow time as the museum is fascinating. The Swan House is equally so and is included in the price of the ticket.
Make sure you allow time to eat in the cafeteria, the soup is delicious and everything is home made. Gets very busy at lunch time and that is why it is yummy.

After visiting Swan House I was totally satisfied . Not only do they have the house to tour but a museum, farm house and gardens. Walking the grounds were beautiful. We also took our picture up on the stairs of Swan House just like in the movie Hunger Games. Plus they gave you complimentary tickets to see Gone with the Wind author Margret Mitchell

how much would a taxi cost from the airport to this hotel and are the taxis metered?

Always On
Birmingham, AL
I would recommend taking MARTA from the airport to the Buckhead station.
The Atlanta History Center is located at 130 West Paces Ferry Road NW, closest to the Buckhead MARTA station on the red rail line. It is the future home of the Cyclorama, and the museum also includes a variety of exhibits and gardens along with the Swan House and Smith Farm House.
From Buckhead, take the first set of stairs out of the station after exiting the fare gate and at street level there will be a bus stop for route 110. Tell the bus driver that you would like to exit at West Paces Ferry Road. Once off the bus, walk west on West Paces.
