About
This stunning, porcelain-enameled building was designed by famed architect Richard Meier and is rivaled only by the art inside. Featuring American, European and African art, as well as decorative art and photography, the High Museum boasts a permanent collection of over 11,000 pieces, many of which can be viewed from different levels of the four-story, glass atrium.

This should be on your Atlanta itinerary. The Arts District is a lovely area. As we approached the museum, we were greeted with live music in the courtyard for a free family event on a Saturday, with several activities for children. I was impressed with the Museum's efforts to engage families. The collections on display are outstanding with excellent curation. Be aware that the museum restaurant is not fully operational as of this writing; that was the only disappointment.

    Quiet Day at High
Weekday visit was lovely. Quiet day, but so much to see. I loved all exhibits and spent much time admiring. Everyone was nice. Their were learning lectures in front of some pieces, but was able to work around. Nice day

Great museum - each individual exhibit is worthwhile, as well as the permanent exhibits.
It doesn’t matter when you go, there is always an exhibit you’ll find well curated and inspirational. This time we were nearby and visited without any plans. Turns out there were three individual exhibits (photography, folk art, and Nubian archeology) that impressed us.

    High on art!
Had great time! I toured the museum solo for more than an hour then joined the docent for her tour. The museum is so beautiful, I just kept walking around and I would see something I hadn’t see the first time. I was in Cumberland area so I got to take mass transit which even made it easier to get around. This was my second trip and it was even more beautiful this time.

    Engaging experience! 5 stars!
We were there several times, and each time had a blast! Classic, Impressionist, and contemporary art is perfectly balanced and gives an opportunity to understand the complexity of every historical stage of art. Special attention to the Veiled Rebecca statue that is a masterpiece not to be missed. The temporary exhibitions are always I look forward to seeing. Beautiful, peaceful place to appreciate art.

    Highly Recommend High Art
My daughter loves museums just as much as I do and this museum did not disappoint. We truly enjoyed the Samurai Exhibit along with all the other exhibits. I really enjoyed the gift shop and I was able to apply my ticket cost to a membership. Highly recommended.

Worth a Visit at Least Once in a While
We took Marta to go there. After having a full meal at an eatery within walking distance, we joined the crowds in the museum. It's a kid-friendly weekend. We viewed some of the best exhibits that had stood the test of time.

Awesome rotating visits, amazing permanent collection. Something for everyone to see from children (education and play center) to adults, modern to impressionist to African art and everything in between. Takes 2-3 hours to see everything, time slot selection, but give yourself extra time because they usually have everyone out exactly at closing time.

The museum has a lot of interesting pieces, but it should be better. It's not keeping up with Atlanta, in that it feels like it belongs in a mid-sized metro, not what we are anymore. It doesn't compare to MMA in New York or the DIA in Detroit, for example. One thing that really irritated me was some Hudson River era art that is stacked up on a wall to the ceiling with the lights reflecting on it, so it is very hard to see. The line to get in (on a Sunday) was quite long, as was the line for the $20 parking. I bailed on that at last second and lucked out and found street parking. The facility is very modern, and not for those for whom heights are a thing by the way. There are some lovely and important works, so it's good to see them, but eh, I'm rating it average.

The building is gorgeous and the folk art and African collections fascinating but the museum seems to go out of it’s way to be user unfriendly. There is no map so you need to navigate on your phone and the process is unclear. Also I would guess not everyone has a phone. One of the main exhibits was about Beatrix Potter but on this day the elevator was out of commission. We’re in our 80s so access was laborious and when we were done we ended up on the ground floor and had to go outside to renter and explain we’d already paid. Finally we followed signs to the lower level to the cafe only to find it wasn’t open, and looked like it never had been.

This could be an excellent museum-- the collection is quite impressive, especially considering what it was ten-fifteen years ago. That being said, the placement of the regular collection is peculiar at best-- some impressionist paintings are hiding in corners behind furniture. The lighting, in general, is abysmal. Where placement of certain frames cause glare, other paintings are left quite literally in the shadows. There is one room where paintings are stacked right on top of each other so high some paintings are barely visible, while other walls contain merely one painting. Then there is a beautiful sculpture on the ground floor which is left in the strangest, dim, empty spot of the building near some old furniture and an old, dusty rug. It's odd.

One of the floors was closed during our visit due to an exhibit change. Another part of the museum was closed off for member's day. Wish we had known that before buying tickets. The art we got to view was nice. Lovely gift shop.
