We visited this museum on a Wednesday afternoon, and it was wonderfully uncrowded. We spent about 3 hours exploring the beautiful grounds with the historic homes, and then going through the Civil War exhibit, which was extremely well-done. It had excellent exhibits and artifacts, clearly written timelines, and short films for each year of the war.

Loved all the exhibits, especially those on the Civil War. Also excited to see the Swan House and gardens.

With some time free, we decided to visit the history centre. It is a great experience, bringing history to life really well, and the swan house, farm and walks were great. We also followed a school party on the civil war exhibit who had a guide from the museum. He was fantastic and brought it all to life brilliantly for... More

Love this place! It has has a great mix of exhibits, reflecting the history of Atlanta, and how it has evolve to become the metropolis it is today. You can find very interesting focused exhibits as well. It has a great display from the Civil War, and now have one showing the evolution of Atlanta over time. I enjoy some... More

I am a history buff, so I went to the History Center with that in mind. It certainly did not disappoint, but I found a lot more enjoyment than just my history passion! I will start with the history part. There is plenty of Civil War History since the Battle for Atlanta was a pivotal point in the Civil War.... More

Great place to visit for history of the Civil War. Up close and personal with interactive audio and movies. Out back they have a park like area which has a farm house and other log structures on it. These structures have been brought here for preservation. There are also live guides who can give you history tours of the area... More

This centre has both well laided out exhibits, the Civc war was one of the best, but the out in the grounds there are several old houses saved and restored. The best is the are people in character explaining and using old hand crafts, which are just so interesting to see and hear, we all lived this way but a... More

Great way to spend an afternoon in Atlanta. Walked the grounds and visited all of the buildings. Swan House is beautiful and it's so nice that you can just wander through at your own pace. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

The exhibits were wonderful! I went on a Sunday and they opened at noon and closed at 4 so I had to move it along in order to see the whole museum, Swan House and Smith Cabin. I really enjoyed the Civil War Exhibit and thought it had a lot of words of wisdom/warning for our current political situation.
