A very nice medieval town with a beautiful piazza where you can sit to have a cup of coffee and watch people walking around.

We live in Umbria, so we are very familiar with local Italian medieval towns. We also love Sagrantino wine and have been in a bunch of wineries for tours and tastings in Montefalco, but somehow we never visited Montefalco’s historical center. We decided to make a day trip out of it and it was absolutely fantastic! We strolled the town (which is very small), went to the point of view, visited Complesso Museale di San Francesco with stunning frescoes (please don’t miss this hidden gem), sat down for a lovely aperitif on the main square and then had a fabulous dinner at Locanda del Teatro! Such a fantastic day! There are plenty of wine stores (we compared prices for some wines that we knew and they were a bit higher than the same wines at the local supermarket or directly from the winery, so we didn’t buy anything), gift shops (with magnets, ceramics from Deruta and other things) and lovely cafés. Charming town that I highly suggest to visit.

Picturesque centre of town with good selection of restaurants and bars - plenty of places to sit out and take in the atmosphere whilst sitting in the sun

Montefalco was recommended by our hosts in Spoleto as a good example of a restored walled town with adequate parking, great wine shops and cafes, and without the hassle of large tour groups. It turned out to be a perfect spot for quiet sightseeing with wonderful views across the region from the viewing area at the top of the town. Recommended.

So many hilltop towns are beautiful to look at from a distance, but disappointing to visit internally. Montefalco is not one of those! It is a spectacular town full of things to see and do. Everything happens here and it is a vibrant town which is generously shared with visitors. It has local, now famous, wine and outstanding oilve oil to boost its attraction. There are plenty of walking options within the towns walls and several open churches to visit. See the square, take the wine and oil- yo7 will never be disappointed. It is not known as the balcony of umbria for nothing with its lengthy outward views towards Bevagna, Trevi, Spoleto, Spello, Assisi and Perugia!

Linger through the labyrinth of ancient streets… take time for a coffee, a gelato, or a leisurely lunch. Oh, and the wine… Keep pouring! Truly a treasure that must be photographed!

We thoroughly enjoyed our walk around this fortified hill top town. Plenty to see and lots of activity including an antiques market, singing and drum playing. It felt that it was going to be a very special evening and night but unfortunately we had to leave.

Montefalco is not only Wine and canteens (which of course is what make this town famous all over the world). The historical center is cosy and quaint. It should be awesome during the summer. In August there should be a kind town festival. Btw is very romantic and perfect to spend a lovely night strolling in the main square and walking through the lanes. Beautiful
